Trip to the San Siro looking less likely
Trip to the San Siro looking less likely
AC Milan lost on Saturday to make it 6 without a win, and they were leapfrogged by Atalanta yesterday. They're now out of the Europa League spots, and unless they turn their form around they'll miss out. They've got another chance if they can beat Juve to win the Coppa Italia. Good luck with that one.
Inter are in danger of moving out of the Europa League too, just 1 point behind Roma and Lazio in the CL spots.
I suppose a trip to Rome might make up for it though eh?

AC Milan vs Burnley really would be like a dream, so hope they qualify. What does the San Siro hold - must be around 80,000? So you'd image we'd get a decent ticket allocation.

Re: Trip to the San Siro looking less likely
I'd love to be drawn with Inter, I've kind of supported them since I was a kid. They were my Subuteo team and I remember once beating Celtic in the European Cup 14-1 on aggregate (7-1 and 7-0) - at Subuteo that is. I still look out for their results and used to watch them whenever they were on TV (remember Football Italia on Channel 4 back in the 90's?). Either way if we wind up pairing with them I might just take my dearly beloved on a romanitc trip to Milan.

San Siro would be the dream. Grew up loving serie a and specifically the san siro. Having been to the two most 'recognised' stadiums after wembley - both the san siro and nou camp would say the san siro is far more iconic, 10 times the atmosphere, higher concentration of 'proper fans' (nou camp is very much a tourist thing these days), better view. Everything about it is just impressive. Its a huge stadium but still with the old school feel.
The dream for me is definitely Burnley at the san siro.

Theyve just gone down now to see if they can have a look round the pitch and club have kindly taken then round. Fair play.

Atalanta wouldnt be a bad trip. The atmosphere there is top. But nothing like the san siro.Walton wrote:AC Milan lost on Saturday to make it 6 without a win, and they were leapfrogged by Atalanta yesterday. Olimpico wouldnt be a bad alternative. Almost as iconic.

If we got a trip to a massive stadium, the club would probably still only take the minimum allocation.

I'm a big stadium geek and I'd be sick with excitement at seeing the Clarets at the San Siro. It's an iconic stadium, and as someone brought up on Football Italia, when we were scrabbling about in the third tier, I'd never have dreamed there'd be the possibility of us playing there.
I just hope that if we get through that we get some big clubs with easy travel, as it could be an anti climax to get stuck with a group with Metalist Kharkiv, BATE Borisov and Rubin Kazan

Hope Atalanta don't make it and then we get them as last year they didnt play in Bergamo but in Reggio Emilia near Bologna. Not sure why but remember Everton playing them there in this year's group stage.
Are we any clearer to knowing if we'd start in the group stages or qualifying rounds?

As much as I love Inter, I’d prefer a different team in Italy.
Purely because I’ve already been and there’s a few others in Serie A on my list.
Unbelievable atmosphere though.

I love Italian football but the stadiums are always dead, 30,000 empty seats in the San Siro every week, 45,000 empty seats in the Olimpico every week, the attendances are just so poor and look even worse with massive stadiums.

I happen to think a top level goalkeeper's kicking is similar to a pro golfer hitting a ball. They should all be able to make that ball drop exactly where they want it, a very high proportion of the time.
If a golfer shanked it out of bounds as often as Pope kicks the ball out of play, they wouldn't make the cut.
I think it's the sole reason Pope hasn't made the cut in terms of England, that's why I'm surprised it hasn't been sorted out in training yet. He can't be happy with it.

Re: Trip to the San Siro looking less likely
Pope isn’t a top level GK. He’s learning. If a young lad burst on the scene in golf with a great 7 month they’d still be improvements to be made. He’ll be working on it I’m sure. These things take time and in the meantime if he keeps making vital saves (or par puts) then all is well.Walton wrote:Not just me - read the player ratings threads, it's something brought up by numerous people.

Shame shaktar cant move home. The stadium and facilities are fantastic. Donetsk as a whole has lost so much. Not to mention its football. A couple of sides went to the wall completely.
