Anyone know why Eurosport comes under the film's package with Sky.
I love the cycling but can only get the highlights now.
Pleased as punch for Froome, but a sickened for Yates considering the rude he's had this week. Was there anything behind his failure today, or has it just caught up with him.

A stunning day from Froome, never thought that could happen today, kept thinking he was gonna run out of juice on that final climb. Insightful to hear from Brailsford afterwards saying pretty much he thought it was gonna happen, and how Team Sky had put all their team personnel along the course, with drinks and energy gel. An amazing amount of work goes on behind the scenes. Thoroughly enjoyed the day, but gutted for Simon Yates. He'll bounce back stronger from this, still very young for a GC rider.

No individual ever wins a grand tour, if you don't have a damn good team behind you, you haven't got a cat in hells chance, no matter how good you are.

I'm still waiting to watch the highlights tonight, but it sounds like Yates was riding on his own today, where as Froome enjoyed the benefits of a fantastic team performance from Sky. Not taking anything away from him, you still have to be there to apply the killer blow.

For all us cyclists out there ( solo Oslo to Bergen through the Telemark mountains, solo to Dordogne, tandem Lands John O’groats amongst some of my experiences - no doubt others on here have far more impressive conquests - hey let’s hear them) I can only marvel at what Froome did today. I just hope he’s clean! Doesn’t come across as the type who would cheat. Hope I’m not being naive!

Well just watched the highlights - that has got to be the greatest individual ride in decades - the only guys to do stuff like that for the big prizes were Mercx, Hinault and LeMond - he just earned the £1m that sky got for him riding the tour

Now can he keep it together tomorrow to have that awesome triple crown

think I am going to watch the highlights again now on +1

I thought Floyd Landis had the greatest ride in history until he failed his test and started the end for Lance Armstrong. Today was special and I’ll be saving the whole day to DVD.

Wow! Stayed off this thread when I realised Froome had done something special and just watched the highlights now.

Has he left enough in the tank to defend his lead? I hope so, that was a ride that deserves to win the tour. To be the winner of all three grand tours would be a phenomenal achievement.

Feel for Yates though, especially being a Lancashire lad.

Really enjoyed that, and as hinted the team did a great job to create the break, but to cycle 50 miles solo is awesome. I can't wait for tomorrow.

Never particularly liked the guy but it is astonishing what he did yesterday in sporting terms. However it will only fuel the fire of those who believe he's a cheat. To be fair he has been biding his time and he had nothing to lose in just going for it. Gutted for Bury lad Yates though, he was broken the day before and yesterday was just the most crushing of defeats. But he has really made his mark now in the sport. Has a great future.

Let's hope his explanation for the high levels of Asthma medication is backed up by sufficient evidence (the elevated levels and why they became elevated has to be demonstrated in laboratory conditions) so he's not stripped of the Giro if he wins it.

Absolutely phenomenal from Froome.

Have to say though i thought the Eurosport highlights package was crap. Pity ITV don’t cover all three GTs.

Chris froome is probably the most drug tested sportsman on the planet at present. Give the lad a break and just marvel at his performance yesterday. Top athlete in the toughest sport going. To compete at the highest level in a grand tour takes a lifetime of commitment so good on him.

Love to believe he’s clean, but for years Armstrong was the most tested athlete in sport and never got caught. Sky’s unconvincing response to the wiggins allegations hardly inspire confidence that they’re as pure as they claim.

It’s a shame, but performances like yesterday only add to the suspicion that surrounds Froome.

People will always question Froome and Team Sky, and I've got to admit to a little chuckle at the guy running after him with a 3 foot inhaler, but you've got to remember that the majority of his time yesterday was made during the downhill sections. Drugs and inhalers dont help you go downhill faster. Froome had nothing to lose and was taking a lot of risks going downhill. Unfortunately, eurosport's highlights decided to completely cut this part out.

Yeah that was one of my problems with the Eurosport highlights. Froome must have put his life on the line to take more than a minute on their descent!

Nor did they show the section where they caught the breakaway and dropped Yates,

for those without access to Eurosport - here's a legit stream

https://www.cycling-today.com/live/2018 ... ivestream/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

should say I am not expecting to see a day like yesterday - More Sky doing what Sky do to ensure the big prize - may be some fun for the white jersey and the final podium place

The GC is generally not contested on the final stage. The stage victory is though.

Because like the Tour De France, the final stage is more or less a procession in the capital city.

Same reason as at The Tour de France.

Essentially they're all knackered after 3 gruelling weeks and it gives them a chance to enjoy the occasion.
