..football has been about money in this country since we adopted professionalism back in the 1880's - first and foremost it is a business.
Can we break into the top 6?

Good for you ..I've met several of football's decision makers and deal with some of them regularly do you know any of them ?
You could do with a reality check 14/20 have a plan alright - survive as long as possible and take the free money from Sky

And you could do with a personality check. If you disagree, try putting things across differently. It's easier to accept somebody disagreeing with you, if they have a bit about them. Which you clearly don't. Nob.

I'd certainly be glad to win the FA/League Cup even if we got relegated. Something to look back on in years to come, like Wigan can.TVC15 wrote:Of course it would be the second option as a preference - but I doubt very much the club would put things in place to plan for such a season where we flirt with relegation yet win the FA Cup. All you need to do is look at the FA Cup winners and finalists for many years now and again it’s the top clubs who win it.
How could we plan for a season like that ? Drop players for league games and rest the better ones to play them in the Cup - only to eventually draw one of the big boys and eventually get beat ?.....having then dropped points in the league ?
You seem to mixing dreams with realistic objectives - which is absolutely fine for us as fans (but not really that relevant to the club)
BUT, as you say, it's a big risk and we might end with nothing apart from a relegation and struggle to get back in the next few years.
Mike Garlick recently said that even though getting into the Europa League was a fantastic achievement the main aim was still getting 40 points next season.

If you are under twenty I admire your child like belief in the beautiful game if you are older then you really should know better by now - football is big business and always has been since they started paying players all those years ago - now the key stakeholders rely upon the great god Sky to fund it ..as we know when you get relegated that funding stops after a couple of years - winning a Cup and getting relegated adds up to poor business that's all I meant and I wouldn't be the only person on this forum who can see that.
If ever you got into conversation with some of the people running football clubs I am quite sure you would be surprised by their priorities ..and I dare say very disappointed
14 out of 20 clubs main priority is to get to 40 points end of.
