Dream game for me this (I know it's only a friendly!). My father-in-law is a massive Espanyol fan. We might have to come over for this one!

Indigo, just out of curiosity.
I've always wondered how Espanyol cope in the shadow of Barca. Then noticing the name, wondered if it was a team supported by the Spanish , whilst all the Catalans follow Barca.

From my experience of a few La Liga games at various stadia, the Spanish don't tend to travel that much to away games...

Hi Colburn. There's definitely a rivalry there between Barça and Espanyol. Unfortunately, Espanyol don't get to enjoy much of the success!

Yes, Barça is definitely the more Catalan club of the two. I tend to see more Spanish flags than Catalan flags at Espanyol games and vice versa at Barça games. However, my father-in-law is a proud Catalan and very much pro-independence. He's basically just not a glory hunter like half the Barça fans :D

Yes they have ultras, I'm one of them: (but not really)

I'll be supporting Burnley for this one, though. Pochettino was in the team I watched and a genius of a forward called Raul Tamudo, the football patron saint of lost causes, in the Ashley Barnes mould.

Been on to see them twice this year, once because they were playing Atletico (my little lad is a massive Griezmann fan) and once because my little lad's football trainer got us all tickets for 10 Euros and so we went to watch the last game of the season, a 4-1 thrashing of Malaga.
A few years ago one of my friends taught English to one of their players so I bought a shirt and asked him to get the players to sign it, turned out to be a good idea because it was their best ever team with Tamudo and De La Pena.

Raul Tamudo is now the striking coach.
Is that the old Olympic Stadium?
Have you been to the new ground, it's lovely.

No, that's the Mestalla in Valencia. That is a photo taken at the Copa del Rey final in 2000 against Athletic Madrid. Here's Tamudo scoring the first goal (we won 2-1) The ball is in the back of the net if you look carefully:

This is the Olympic Stadium (centennario celebration.) We all signed up for a special season ticket offer of all the matches for £30!!!!!!!!!!! Typical Barcelona story, as the city gives with one hand and takes with another. I would have liked to have watched them at Sarria, the Olympic Stadium was a bit too vast and away from the pitch. Nevertheless, a grand setting up on Montjuic:

That new stadium looks good. I'll see if I can attend a match there, if I ever return.

P.s. That top I'm wearing is the worse football top I've ever seen, but it was cheap.

I used to go on five minutes after kick off in Montjuic for nothing, they just let you walk on!

This goal? Where he mugged the goalie...

You can see the ball lodged in the far corner on my photograph and Tamudo running away in celebration on the line of the pitch. It was an amazing goal. Thanks for posting the clip.
