Billy Joel this evening

Post by Burnleyareback2 » Sun Jun 17, 2018 12:34 am

Saw 2 Burnley shirts at old trafford this evening.

Fantastic show tonight and I didn’t feel as grubby after watching Elton John and Deadwood last year

Great night!

Billy Joel at Old Trafford..... I'm off to see Lionel Richie tonight at Carlisle United, I'd have thought the venues would have been best suited the opposite way around :o

Watching your idols all the way through to their geriatric phase is still big buisness.

I'd be worried about them doing a wee or a poo whilst on stage.

Great musicians are always great musicians. Voices go musical talent doesn’t.
We are going next Saturday in Dublin to see one of the best ever.

He's still got it. Too many covers last night at the expense of originals but he was clearly enjoying himself.

Speaking of good oldies, saw Jeff Beck at The Liverpool Philharmonic last night
and witnessed something very rare and very very special.

Awesome performance.

Fantastic evening last night at old trafford. The only disappointment for me was that
he didn't perform "Innocent man". Still great show and my son, 13, loved it.

Billy Joel's "An Innocent Man" was the first album I ever bought. Wish I still had it, was a classic then and still is

I've seen PiL a number of times over the years but less enthused by post Levene output.

Piano Man was amazing as always, but I enjoyed his version of A Day In The Life. Great showman and entertainer. I was also disappointed that he didn’t do An Innocent Man, so to speak.

Surely the best Billy Joel material is the stuff from his early days, particularly from The Stranger and 52nd street albums (obviously Piano Man being a classic track too) ? From "Uptown Girl" era on it went cheesily downhill I'd say. The Stranger has always been a favourite of mine. Love the track Allentown from The Nylon Curtain album too.

That is true of all the greats: Stones, Pink Floyd, Springsteen, Dylan but they all have a fabulous portfolio of songs and still give value for money.

Did Lionel Ritchie give value for money? I think he’s been doing 1 hour shows for the last few years

I take it you've not been to see him then TheOriginalLongsider?

Lionel came onstage at 8.40, he performed a good mix of Commodores stuff and his own stuff. Concert lasted until 10.05, so concert lasted 1 hour 25 minutes.

For the record, Lionel is starting to look his age now (age 68) but still puts a good show on.
