The Peru following is phenomenal. They deserve to see a win.

Unlucky there, should've scored at one end concede from a deflection at the other.

If the smaller, weaker teams aren't allowed to compete at the world cup how do they improve?

Take Costa Rica or Egypt as an example.

A few years ago you would never have imagined that both sides would have two of the best players in the world at this competition, Keylor Navas for Costa Rica & Salah for Egypt.

It shows that smaller teams can prosper.

Good game this, 2 teams trying to win, atmosphere in the stadium and a game with real tempo.

When did I ever say Costa Rica or Egypt shouldn't be allowed to compete?
I was talking about the Asian nations only, not that they wouldn't be allowed to compete but the 6 chances they get should be lowered and distributed to stronger confeds like Africa. Any African team that qualifies absolutely deserves to be there because the African qualifying system is incredibly strong and allows no 2nd chances.

Matches that matter.
group A
Russia and Uruguay both qualify. They play each other and cannot influence who their opposition will be, from group b. A chance to play the fringe players.

group B
Portugal play Iran. Winner goes through. Draw good enough for Portugal.
Spain should be good enough to get a result against Morocco and could have the option of choosing their ko opponents, dependant on how the Portugal/Iran match is going.

that referee is simply not watching.

keep your eye on him during the set plays.

he is constantly looking at his linesman.

I was just thinking the exact same thing! I often don't bother watching the studio talk and just sit down when the game is on, but I had to take a double take when I saw what he was wearing.

The peru striker was absolutely awful. Didnt move anywhere near enough on his own upfront. That said time and time again peru got the ball out wide and he was the only man in the box which either meant that a) the french defence easilly dealt with it or b) the ball was shifted back and accross the midfield.

I’d love Croatia to win this, Iceland to beat Nigeria then Croatia and Iceland can play out the draw.
Argies go home.

Oh they've played eight World Cup matches already? 8 matches in a week is impressive no wonder they scored only 2 goals, I bet they were shattered by game number 4.

Is anyone else not getting fed up with all the diving and play acting? I can't remember it ever being as rife as this. The games are stop start.

I’m so pleased they appear to be clamping down on the arm across the body.
If the ball is out of reach it’s an obstruction but very rarely given in England.

It's galloped, more than crept into the game.
The worrying thing is, because of the bubble most of these 'top' players live in now, they don't seem remotely embarrassed doing it.

It’s shameful and disgraceful. There have been worse incidents than in this match but everyone seems to go along with it: players, referees, commentators, VAR, even some of the fans.

There was an incident in the france game earlier. A peru player merely flicked the face of a center back for france and his reaction was an utter embarrassment

What's the point of VAR if the Croatian player only gets a yellow for stamping on the ankle of the Argentinian player?
