Wooden Seats in Cricket Field Stand on their way ?

Post by randomclaret2 » Fri Aug 03, 2018 10:44 pm

UEFA have told the club the wooden seats in the away section of the CFS must go if we reach the Group Stages of the Europa League

Should we ask the Turks to remove them?

Seats for spectators must be individual, fixed (e.g. to the floor), separated from
one another, shaped, numbered, made of an unbreakable and non-flammable
material, and have a backrest of a minimum height of 30cm when measured
from the seat.
Those are the rules.

Considering they only get 3,000 at home we should only need to change a couple of hundred.

Seriously, as we don't want to waste money, is it possible to change them for benches, or do they have to be individual seats.

Stupid UEFA. To be non-flammable doesn't mean that a seat can't catch fire, just that it can't catch fire easily. I bet you'd struggle to set fire to those seats by putting a lighter to them. And plastic can burn, so it's not as if plastic meets the rules any more than wood.

Is it 5% of the seats that have to be for away supporters? If so, can't we set aside 500 corner seats on the Jimmy Mac Lower and use the whole Cricket Field for us?

[Edit - it would be 1,000 seats to get 5%.]

As someone has suggested, just move the away fans to the Jimmy Mac lower.

Because it's the away fans who tend to rip them up and throw them at people, a poxy bit of plastic won't do the damage a solid lump of wood will.

I can see an opportunity here: sell off the wooden seats to Burnley fans. Wouldn't we all want at least one of these in our homes? Maybe a nice set of 4 or 6 as special features around the dining/kitchen table? Maybe the buyers of 10 wooden seats could have priority for away tickets - alongside the 6,000 pointers.

Who knows, maybe the Cricketfield Stand wooden seats could become a "design classic" just like the Chesterfields (not the tilted spire) or the Swedish "egg" chair (or whatever it is).

Mix the wooden seats with some historic "weavers triangle" spindles and bobbins and we will have created a "Northern Powerhouse Revival" fashion. I can see it on BBC2 next year - and an inspiration for the fashion shows for Autumn 2019.

You read it here first. ;)

SD has made it quite clear that the EL will not be to the detriment of the PL. TThe Aberdeen games were “competitive friendlies” - great for getting the first team up to speed for the season. Once we start, expect to see a few changes for the EL games.

I think every Burnley knows the real prize / aim is 17th in the Prem, above that is a brucey. I just thought last night, Dyche wanted it, wants to test himself and the club in Europe, honestly, i dont know why, but thought prior to last night this was more a hindrance than an opportunity. Ultimately and rightly so, we risk top flight football for nothing!

If I thought our aim was "17th in the prem" I'd be really disappointed.

We can finish above that, surely?

16th?

You mean, play 30 matches or so with no real pressure, no real danger of relegation, and a strong desire to lose all matches that might mean something; then play friendlies for the rest of the season. Repeat ad infinitum.

If you define football excitement by reading a balances sheet, it sounds fun. What exactly is the point of playing the matches if you positively do not want to win anything?

I can well believe Dyche is aiming for 17th judging by the hapless way we've gone about our transfer business so far this summer

Any Turkish restaurants or chillies nearby?

On what basis? With the squad retention that finished so well last season, 2 goalies injured which will return & a able deputy. Other teams have strengthened & chances are so will others spurs aside.

Wow, you been home since last night? What I meant was survival im the premier league means everything. I would love us to win the Europa, but we could get into the group stage, pick up some cataclysmic injuries and be goosed. Until we have a bigger squad, the EL will fall behind the EPL.

For example; would you want 1/4s in Europa amd gladly accept relegation?

How did Everton get away with it last season then?

I would be inclined to believe the Beano before the Daily Mail.

Pity we can't arrange a friendly with Millwall. They are pretty good at taking out the wooden seats. Aren't there a few plastic ones in the CF stand now courtesy of Millwall fans in around 1999-2000 season?

Because to get to the quarter finals of the europa league would mean we would've

Knocked out Aberdeen in a two legged tie
Knocked out Istanbul in a two legged tie
Knocked out a major team like Sevilla or Feyenoord in a two legged tie to reach the groups
Then qualify from a group as an unseeded team against some big name European sides
Won the last 32 in a two legged tie
Won the last 16 in a two legged tie

So we would have had 16 memorable nights in Europe before whatever happened in the last two games in the quarter final.

Those nights would be forever in our memories. I can only imagine how my young nephews would remember the experiences they'd have had. They already can't believe they're going to Turkey next week to watch Burnley.

There will be many many other seasons when we play Watford, Fulham, wolves, Brighton, huddersfield, Bournemouth, west ham, Southampton, Cardiff, crystal palace and Leicester!!!!

That's why.

Get a preservation order from English Heritage.

Carefully remove the wooden seats, make the away fans stand up for the matches, stick the seats back in when its all over.

A) Having no seats removes the potential for fire hazzards and dangerous abuse.

B) It's a lot cheaper than buying environmentally unfriendly plastic seats that nobody really wants.

C) Tired fans generate weaker support.

Do UEFA have any logic for thinking that the wooden seats were safe last night against Aberdeen but will not be safe in the group section?

Of course it does. The memories would be unimaginable.

We've been in the championship before and will again.

If being happy at a big balance sheet and fighting to do nothing more than stay up means more to you then fine.

I suppose it depends on how you define success and achievement.

Getting to a quarter final of a competition doesn't actually sound that great on paper, until you look at how many teams you'd have knocked out to get there, but I want to stay in the PL for as long as possible and not be back in the Championship.

Of course, maybe I'd think differently if I could afford to go to all these places ;)

Dont get why you are being a d!ck tbf. Survival in the prem is the priority... or are you one of the new fans since 2010? I would love us to take Europe apart, and have a massive hit at it, but with Saints away and United at home we have to be prudent. Two great comps, we are like an elastic band. I hope we right on in Europe, and survive in the prem, you're talking like we are safe already so lets go mad? Fulham and Wolves are spilling cash, wont be easy

You've completely missed his point which was a good one

You think that your opinion so clearly the only possible one that everyone who disagrees is being one of those rude names that you risk being banned for? I hope it's the drink talking.

I would be inclined to believe the Beano before the Daily Mail.
I was thinking the same.

If we were to progress and draw Hannover 96, I'm sure their fans would do the job for us. 2 birds 1 stone!

Not very environmentally friendly having to remove timber and replace it with plastic
