Ball Boys

Post by warksclaret » Sun Aug 19, 2018 4:46 pm

Whats happened to the ball boys around the ground. Suspect we lost around 3 minutes today as Watford were clearly not rushing to get the ball. Have they been dispensed of their services

Got a couple injured and we failed to bring in sufficient additions in the summer so we are a bit threadbare. The fact they did 120 mins on Thursday didnt help and you can understand them being a bit off the pace today

Ive often thought the same thing over the last season or two. Some of those lads dont seem remotely interested in retrieving the ball. Are they actually ballboys or do we use members of some of our younger age group teams?

Some of them seem as if they dont want to move off their small stools. In days gone by the young ballboys would be almost fighting each other to get to the ball first so they could get it back on the pitch as soon as possible. I know it seems a bit trivial but it is something which I have noticed regularly at our home games.

Who is the lady from Sky that tell the referee when we can kick off?

There were times today when Watford got a throw in and as you can expect when its 30-40 yards away with no ball boys, it took ages to re-start and felt like a massive loss of time which over a game could equate to the equivalent of injury time

The club sort the ballboys out now. I suspect the lads chosen do so without any guidance as previously given.

The lad who sits in front of Block 6 of the Bob Lord understands when he has and hasn't to get up from his stool to chuck the ball back.

We instruct him depending on the score etc.

Poor lad looks petrified.

We missed ball boys today, for sure and last Thursday.

No pies, no ballboys, no points at home....what's going on?

My mate got the last bottle of cider today 5 minutes before half time.

Not like they are going to pass their sell by date before long!

In all seriousness the ball boys have been useless for a number of years. Whenever we are chasing the game and need them to be quick they don't move but if the opposition are chasing the game the ball boys move like lightning!

I used to be a ball boy on the turf many years ago (Orient season time) and always remember Leighton James giving us a pep talk. "If we are winning lads I want you to really take your time getting the ball but of were losing I want you to run like mad".
