Is Jimmy Anderson a GOAT?

Post by CleggHall » Fri Sep 14, 2018 6:41 pm

GOAT = Greatest of All Time.
Statistics in this case don't lie, Burnley's own Jimmy Anderson is the greatest fast bowler "that ever drew breath" to misquote Fred Trueman. His ability to stay fit in the most demanding role as opening fast bowler and take wickets for fun is little short of amazing. We salute you Jimmy, yes you are the GOAT.

Great achievement and made better from our point of view he's a local lad but taking overall career stats McGrath is the best bowler in my opinion.

Fantastic pace bowler but not McGrath. He’s the GOAT and will be for a long time.

Probably biased but Anderson is better than McGrath for me.

For the most part Anderson has been playing in an inferior team compared to McGrath’s Australia and he is also a world class fielder in his own right.

McGrarh is no Malcolm Marshall.

For me Jimmy's average is a little higher than what I'd consider 'GOAT' territory... Alhough like a fine wine, Jimmy has improved drastically as he's gotten older. What he can do with the ball is incredible.

Mcgrath & Ambrose best pace bowlers for me.

I think sometimes stats, especially in cricket can be misleading. He is the leading fast bowling wicket taker of all time. A fabulous achievement. However lets not kid ourselves, there are (fast) bowlers out there, and this is only my opinion, who are far greater than Jimmy. Imo McGrath is the greatest of all time, but by the same token your could argue the same for Holding, Hall, Lillee and Marshall.
Putting it into context, he's not IMO the greatest English fast bowler, for me that accolade goes to Fred Trueman and his partner Brian Statham is the greatest Lancashire fast bowler. Brian Statham does have a road named after him, an honour that I hope is bestowed upon Jimmy sometime in the near future.

I can't comment on the older bowlers I never saw play but Jimmy would of been unplayable on uncovered wickets.

All sport caught on TV from yesteryear looks like it was played at half pace.

“Greatest Of All Time” is too subjective. It’s the same as when they try to compare Pele to Maradonna to Messi/Ronaldo or when they say would the x team of 1972 best the y team of 2018

Equipment, training methods, rehab methods have all changed and depending on your age you’ll have different opinions

My grandads GOAT would be different to my dads GOAT and both those would be different to my GOAT and mine difeent to my brothers

(Sorry CTU - putting GOAT all those times was easier than typing it all out )
