Signs up with Joey and Marney at Fleetwood. Played 31 games last season for Sheff Wed, very good signing at League One level.

Interesting that thw two players who took a cut in earnings to extend their contracts at the Turf are now happy to turn out at League One level.
They obviously both still want to play football and will do a good job in that division.

Fleetwood look to have some good players for that level.
They’d have another one if the manager put his boots on.

Interestingly I was speaking to someone last Sunday on way to Wolves who had been to the Fleetwood v Accrington game. He said Marney looked way off it and the Fleetwood fans don't appear to have taken to him.

Dear oh dear, another player who has suddenly become a world star because he's not playing for us. How ever good or not so good he was, he was never ever popular with the Burnley fans. To suggest he's a better player than what we have now is stretching it.

I take it he was a free agent then? I noticed I hadn't seen his or Boyds name featured much at all for Wednesday this season.

A bit strange to suggest Wallace is better than our current crop. I don't think he ever suited Dyche's set up and certainly didn't seem capable of beating his man or tracking back.

Strange though to suggest he didn't suit Dyche's set up too to be honest. Was in the team until he had to drop out for a knee op and when he was fit we were playing really well and he couldn't get back in.

He will be used to that after his time at the Turf, particularly with the slating he took from a lot of fans in his early years with us.
I am sure that it will be difficult getting back into the swing of things after the two injuries he sustained and I wish him well.

I'm not knocking Wallace. I quite liked him, even if I am in a minority. Maybe the old dementia is setting in and I am thinking post injury.

I was at the game at Leicester when Ross Wallace scored the equalizer from a free kick in the 97th minute

We'd lost the previous game 4-0 at West Brom with a depleted team. Wallace played at West Brom and it proved to be his last start for us. The free kick at Leicester was also his last Burnley goal.

Was definitely a Dyche player but one of the best things that happened to us that first promotion season under Dyche was Wallace's injury as it opened the door for Arfield and Kightly to get the wide spots and form the midfield 4 that was the foundation of our success

Had Wallace stayed fit I think Dyche would have stuck with him and things could have been very different and not for the better

I was at that game and I thought Marney ran the game personally. He looks a class above the rest of their squad.

Wallace was okay.

I get why fans don't take quickly to Marney although I always liked him. For a midfielder his passing and shooting is below what you'd expect quality wise, although he did play some nice raking balls to the wings. What really sets him apart is the dirty work he does for the team, invaluable in that respect.

Both great signings for a team pushing for promotion in League one.

My main memory of Wallace and his time here is of him trying to tackle the man with the ball, getting there too late, realising he wasn't fast/strong enough and fouling him. Felt like it happened every game.

A bit strange to claim Wallace couldn't beat a man, when from what I've seen neither can JBG or Lennon.
I know they are better players, I just wish they had the confidence to show it once in a while.

31 appearances for Wednesday? well they must have had the other 9 outfielders doing most of the running for him.

Scored the odd good goal from free kicks but spent most of the time fouling someone then moaning about it. Just like Lennon is now he hardly ever went past the full back.

A complete liability at away games I was delighted when we got rid.

David Jones and Dean Marney are the sort of players that because for 90 mins they aren't slicing a ball through 5 opposition players or banging a 30 yarder into the top corner every other game people don't appreciate but the moment they're suspended or injured people appreciate their importance to the team, similar to players such as James Milner and Michael Carrick.

And to think for a while people wanted Ulvestad playing instead of Jones

Jones and Marney were very different players. Marney was miles ahead of him. Jones was a good servant, but was lower championship standard at best.

The comparisons you make with Marney were fair - but it says something when people always talk about Jones, His merits are always “being a part of that team”, as opposed to his own performances.

Probably says more about the people who specifically target Jones to criticize him, then it does about us who say he was vital to the team.

He did the simple things well, but the simple people can't see it because they don't want too.

Westwood does the simple things well. He did the simple things very averagely. You can call me “simple” all you like but I do not believe he was at all vital to the team.
