Relegation could be linked to the poor start that wasn’t helped by the disastrous European campaign

I also think we be fine. There’s 3 worse teams in this division

They drew at home 0-0 I think to Real Betis in their first game
Got AC Milan and some team from Luxembourg in the group games.

Look to be going well in the league, max points so far

The BBC article is really good; mentions the reason for the fine and then goes on to say that one fan was stabbed and 4 injured after an attack before the game. So, fines for setting off fireworks and throwing odd stuff onto the pitch but nowt for attacking fans before the game with cops and stewards doing sod all.

Can't see where I've said that but there were two forgettable 0-0's against the Turkish team.

Funny. I could've sworn we we won that second leg.

Not in 90 minutes we didn't. No extra time in league games.

Do you reckon Derby's 11 point PL season was a positive, as they were "playing in the Premier League" ?

Comparing a 38 games season to 6 games is a bit daft son

But we played in europe so it’s a positive.

It like building a new patio.

Your boots and clothes get covered in ****.
The kettle gets covered in ****.
The driveway, paths etc get covered in ****.
You get covered in ****.
The shower gets covered in ****
All very negative but in the end you’ve got a patio. Positive.

What if the building work from your patio makes your house fall down? Is it still a positive experience having a patio?

It’s actually more like not paying your mortgage then you can pay for the patio then it p!sses it down all summer so you don’t actually even get the benefit for the patio

Didn't say that either. You evidently saw benefits for Burnley Football Club playing 3 teams during the summer. What those benefits were I genuinely can't see. The away games amounted to an injured keeper, a near empty stadium and a somewhat questionable referee. Two goals scored and one of them was a penalty. A fraction more at home but it needed two lots of extra time to achieve it and then a sorry anti-climax v the Greeks. Also having to play domestic games less than 72 hours after playing in 90 degree heat. Not ideal preparation. Anyway, that's my take on it.

I can be a cynical sod at times, but I'm still glad I don't have your bleak outlook on life.

I was someone who couldn't afford to go to the away games, but I'm sure the memories will live with those who did forever.

I was able to watch the first leg via stream against the Greeks, and the only decision I'd question in that second half was the red card for Gibson. We actually defended better with a man less anyhow!

Anti-climax in the second leg? Well, only because we didn't win, but the occasion was terrific and we were the better team.

We lost, but it happens, get over it. To suggest that it was forgettable for fans and players alike is just plain daft. Players prefer to play than train... just ask them if you don't believe me!

You are getting confused between a bleak outlook and an outlook that differs to yours

Fair enough if you enjoyed it. As for getting over it I was never particularly concerned especially when it impacted on our league form. It is a forum for discussion, though and on this particular topic we'll have to agree to disagree.

So what’s the maximum ambition then ? Reading some on this thread it is to finish no higher than eighth and make sure we don’t win any of the domestic cup competitions so we don’t have to play in Europe. I’d say if that’s the outlook then what’s the ******* point.

We can stay in the Premier League and save money for when we are no longer in the Premier League I suppose, That will become pretty ******* boring pretty ******* quickly.

I think we have to aim to build a squad capable of managing a European adventure. At this stage, we don’t have that

But we weren't playing a league game and we weren't playing under the same rules. Under the rules of the competition we were playing, it was a win.

European starts with a Y sound. It's not "an unicorn" either.

Yes,I know it was a win. I was replying to a previous post intimating I might prefer '38 0-0's' in domestic football as opposed to the results of our European adventure where results weren't exactly goal fests. Shouldn't have bothered.

Going round in bloody circles here. You believe that Burnley benefitted from playing in Europe(not seen any evidence yet) and I don't. What are these wonderful memories and never to be forgotten experiences that our venture into Europe provided? You've not said yet.

At least we don't have to rip out the wooden seats a decision that was made by someone younger than the seats themselves (had we progressed)

UEFA need to fine clubs to pay their salaries....
It must be great just sitting round looking for anything worth fining a club for instead of working for a living !!

Don’t care how much the Club made nor how much it cost me to get to all 6 games .
I have some amazing memories , met some amazing people in some silly places due to having to get so many planes and think it was incredible.
