Re: O' Neill and Keane..
Shame. They have done well. But this is as poor a pool of players as I ever remember them having to choose from. So probably as good a move for them as it is Ireland.
Maybe someone with new ideas might come in and change it but i doubt it.
Seriously lacking in talent right now.

Re: O' Neill and Keane..
Mick McCarthy coming back looks favourite. Those calling for a complete change are touting the Dundalk manager who has done really well (think it’s Dundalk).
Tony Cascarino just on radio talking about it - does not sound like O’Neils biggest fan - he said O’Neil was very intolerant with ex players who had a view and rude with the press.
I bet press conferences with O’Neil and Keane were a barrel of f’in laughs....both wrong uns in my book.

I'm sure I'll get shot down for this so I'll put my tin hat on first but .....
If SD ever left I wouldn't object to O'Neill taking over. Not so much Keane though.

It's gone tits up over the past year with them, players falling out with Keane hasn't helped and O'Neill is yesterday's man now in my view.

agree completely. Good manager. Seems a good man. And almost always overachieves with a limited squad. Clearly struggled since the last Euros though.Foulthrow wrote:I'm sure I'll get shot down for this so I'll put my tin hat on first but .....

My main concern now is how are we going to get updates on our injured players!?

These two along with Gordon Strachan were always my favourites in post match press conferences when things hadn't gone well.

I think the writing was on the wall a while ago looking at the Stephen Ward Whatsapp fallout affair in September.

Ranieri also 65 when he won the league. 7 years younger than what Fergie was when he last did it!Dy1geo wrote:Roy Hodgson is 71 and did all right last year

I heard Dyche also made that pact but about Hendrick for Burnley so it doesn't look like our Sean will have a reason to leave us anytime soon!!Longsidelenny wrote:O’Neill and Roy Keane got together 2 years ago in a meeting and said to each other the first time Jeff Hendrick plays well we are off got told he was the man of the match the other night well done for keeping your promise lads

The worst combination ever. I bet the current players are pleased.

Re: O' Neill and Keane..
Goodness the Irish set up was as bad as it's ever been in the end they had to go to be honest . Now not sacked but sure there must be some pay off somewhere knowing our lot .
O'Neill has had his chips really , maybe a Championship outfit at best , hey should have gone to Stoke when they wanted him last year .
As for Keane ( the Tea Boy ) really can't see what's in store for him as he just has not got it anymore , but don't think he was ever up to it as a manager .
We have six managers which the media think have a chance Mick Mc seems to be # 1 but I did smile at Fat Sam on the list , hey we will see .

Re: O' Neill and Keane..
To be fair their current squad is abysmal. I would be surprised if anyone could make a difference.
With the possible exception of Seamus Coleman, they havent one player who would get near any other decent international side.

Re: O' Neill and Keane..
They’ve been dealt a very poor hand. Gone in a short time from Robbie Keane, Shane Long and Jon Walters, who all scored international goals to Robinson & Maguire from Nobenders who don’t.
Any defence with Keogh in it is going to struggle.
Players win matches not managers.

Re: O' Neill and Keane..
Problem with playing such poor football is that fans will just about tolerate it if it's getting results but if results turn you're under pressure immediately. That's what the likes of Allardyce, Pulis and to a lesser extent Dyche have found out.

Re: O' Neill and Keane..
The straw that broke the camels back was the game against Northern Ireland, I sat and watched a team that on paper was inferior, technically and tactically outplay us from start to finish, no going back from that.
As for the future, I would love to see Stephen Kenny get the job, best domestic manager in a long while, unfortunately the FAI is notoriously risk averse so I think Mick McCarthy is in pole position, whoever gets the job after a year of zombie football the only way is up.

Re: O' Neill and Keane..
Keane hasn't done well in management (apart from the first season in charge of Sunderland), but I do like him as a pundit on ITV, as he says it how it is. But I can imagine how players won't like him. One stray pass and it's hairdryer time. I bet he got on their wick.
Mick McCarthy would get my vote, if only for the humour aspect...

Re: O' Neill and Keane..
Been on the cards for a while. They've had a lot of injuries to some of their better players, as well as seen a few good players come to the end of their careers but it hasn't been good and I can't think many Irish fans will be sad to see the back of them.
Good news for fans of Keane as a pundit (like myself).

My ex brother-in- law worked with all the premier League managers a few years ago and always said Martin O'Neill was by far the worst to work with, a very unpleasant man who was only interested in the money.

I rather think Roy Keane's future lies within the confines of a TV studio, after this ... It seems he'd cause an argument in a phone box !

You may not like this idea but I think Wenger would be good for us .cricketfieldclarets wrote:Who would you personally want Tribesman?
Now as much as I like Mick you should never go back , Kenny has done very well with Dundalk but he blew out when he had his chance in Scotland and had the biggest job in the league of Ireland as he was poor with Rovers .
As for Big Sam hummmm not sure , he started out as manager of Limerick maybe he would see this as full circle for him .
Have a strong feeling that Robbie Keane or Duffer will be number two to whoever the FAI pick as it would keep the fans onside .
They seem to think this will be sooner than later also .
Watch this space .

Wenger would be great in theory. But i doubt fans would have patience and i doubt he would be able to work magic with such a poor pool of layers.Tribesmen wrote:You may not like this idea but I think Wenger would be good for us .

McCarthy is probably the best choice for that squad. Especially when you look how ipswich are doing now.
Perhaps you could poach the other oneill...

They should have walked after the 1-5 at home to Denmark. An entire year wasted.

The Media seem to think Mick has the job , now myself never sure what the FAI will do but then again neither are they .
