French Riots
This is what happens when a population gets sick of struggling to feed themselves despite being in employment.
And when riots start you inevitably have the state gets violent right back.

Nobody is struggling to feed themselves here mate.
Everybody eats very well actually. Great wine, world's best cheeses & top notch charcuterie.
Unemployment is high, but the unemployed eat well too.

Not being up too much on all this but would you say the media in England are lapping this up and over sensationalizing to back up their agenda of us leaving the EU? I am not saying things are not bad but from people I know who live in France they have all been downplaying this and putting it firmly at the door of troublemakers

But everybody eats well, I can assure you of that.
The food is excellent, even on a modest job, and I dine out with unemployed people all the time.

Re: French Riots
People who I know who went on the protest in Montpellier gave their reasons variously as:
It's fun
For the Revolution
To show Macron who's in charge
None of them are hungry.
I promise you. They all eat very well. Almost certainly better than yourself.
I've heard plenty of reasons why people have joined in the various demonstrations across the country but the hardcore trouble is being caused by the usual rent-a-protester lot. These people are not hungry despite not being in employment.

Here's a load of ambulances joining in some kind of protest against Macron:

I'm confident they all ate well before they went on their little bit of action. They're almost certainly French and almost certainly not hungry.

Let me guess. Soros is paying them, right? lol.
And i'll let you figure out for yourself the obvious contradiction in the passage i've quoted. It's a contradiction arisen from, i sense, an effort to clutch at as many right-wing propaganda points as possible without thinking.

They're normally getting paid by the French state (ie. French taxpayers, including yours truly) and I can assure you that they often aren't working and are certainly not hungry.

Because it's impossible for people to protest on behalf of others, i guess. Especially paramedics who would never take any action in an attempt to help other people.Rowls wrote:Here's a load of ambulances joining in some kind of protest against Macron:

I don't know much about these riots but Im guessing by the positive tone by the media about them and lack of labels being thrown around to describe them they are a left wing mob.

No, the "contradiction" isn't down to what you attribute - it was just poking fun at your turn of phrase in the OP and your idea that France is full of people who are hungry:

The originally gilet jaune fuel protesters were far from left wing but the current outbreak of violence is far more likely to be a far left extremist organisation(s).

Re: French Riots
But in all seriousness CharlieTurtle you should travel a little and see some more of the world.
It broadens your horizons.
But before you do, just to clear it up:
No, they aren't hungry.
No, they aren't being 'paid by Soros'.
Come out here and sample the cuisine - you'll be glad of it and you won't go hungry or struggle to feed yourself.

The media seem to be very much in their corner from the reporting I've seen. Can't imagine that would be the case if it was an immigration protest.
Odd though that lefties would protest tax increases, I thought that was their thing.

I must admit, when i see rail fares going up 3.1% in the new year, despite the utterly inadequate service, i do wonder if the average person in Britain could do with shrugging off their collective lack of direct action and f**king s**t up a bit

People are rioting because there are millions of poor people who are sick of being poor and sick of the people they vote for not doing anything about it.
But i guess being opposed to poverty is a left-wing issue now, eh?

It'll happen sooner or later. It's the natural consequence of constant and growing corporate oppression.

With no due respect you have absolutely no credibility. For years on two forums i've seen you be a sycophant for right-wing politicians and their pro-corporate, anti-proletariat policies. You seem like this forum's equivalent of a media talking head on the BBC that the Tories trot out to repeat talking points aimed at stifling discussion and keeping people uninformed.
"I can promise you that people are not "struggling to feed themselves"." is not a comment that would come from someone interested in the discussion, or interested in allowing the discussion to happen. It is a flat denial. An opinion, that is almost certainly untrue, presented as if it is a fact.

Only fair as I plugged the others. TBH Popeye's is far, far inferior but sometimes eating all this wonderful food and wine gets too much and I find myself craving cheap, dirty, deep-fried chicken.

Seriously. EVER.
So I'm sorry for being so disagreeable with you. Perhaps it's because I hadn't had my breakfast and was therefore, y'know, struggling a bit. Struggling to feed myself.
I've eaten now. It's gonna be OK till lunch time. But after that, who knows?
In the meantime, whilst you're helping to educate me all about France I'd be ever so grateful if you could pass on any advice you have on the conjugation of French verbs.

Re: French Riots
Seriously, for any other posters who want to know about the food situation in France, there have been TWO food incidents nationally in France since I arrived.
1. The butter shortage of 2017. Government maximum pricing for butter meant it was unprofitable so French farmers sold their milk elsewhere and french customers were left without butter - thanks to government price controls.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-41766352" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
2. The Nutella Riots of January 2018. Yes, UTC - I lived through the Nutella Riots of 2018.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-42826028" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
And that's as close as France has come to having riots about food since I've been living here.

No, the ambulance protest is not a protest for hunger-by-proxy.
Once again, just want to confirm that nobody is hungry here. It's France for crying out load, not Sudan.

Everybody eats very well actually. Great wine, world's best cheeses & top notch charcuterie.
Unemployment is high, but the unemployed eat well too."
Is that tongue in cheek?

Is Rowls really trying to claim that nobody in all of France ever goes hungry?

I think he is trying to say, granted in a ham fisted way, that the unrest in France is not about French people starving which Turtle was trying to suggest.Greenmile wrote:Is Rowls really trying to claim that nobody in all of France ever goes hungry?
