Great sportsman and superb athlete . Shown that great sporting adage ” hard work will always overcome natural talent when natural talent doesn’t work hard enough “( sir Alex)

Of course he was gifted but at a time of literal all time greats ( Djokovic/Nadal/Fed- still 1,2,3 in the world rankings!!) He worked on his strength on his mind and trained like a demon to get the No 1 ranking .Not easy growing up from your teens as public property. Well done Sir I doff my cap to you, a very rare breed indeed a true British world class sporting hero.

ps
On the bright side I guess we’ll see less of his hatchet face mum

Murray's first slam final was only 10 years ago. To get to the top of tennis you need to be starting pretty young so we should only really start seeing the Murray-inspired generation turning pro from about now. So i'm not sure how you can claim that Murray's legacy has been wasted when it hasn't even begun.

But regardless, the youngest player in the top 1,000 ATP rankings is British. We have 17 players currently in the top 1,000, more than i can remember us ever having. Two players in the top 100, one of which is a grand slam semi-finalist and among the youngest in the top 20. In fact of the 13 players ahead of him in the rankings only 3 are younger. And that's just on the men's side.

In women's tennis we have 24 top 1,000 players, 8 of whom are under 20 years old. We have 3 top 100 players, and again one of them is a slam semi-finalist.

British tennis has more strength in depth to it than i can remember it ever having and the impact of Murray's legacy hasn't even been felt yet. I don't think your pessimism is at all warranted.
