Re: The Independent Group of MP's ...
The important point about Carswell and Reckless,is that a large amount of Conservative members and activists joined in with their defections,i can't remember all the details but i'm fairly sure in Carswell's case some local councillors followed him into UKIP.
This was a major factor in helping both in the ensuing by-elections,these latest defectors don't appear to have as much local backing from their associations, some even faced deselection.
Some of the above might explain their reluctance in facing the electorate under their new colours,if any by-elections do occur you can be certain both major parties will fight hard to gain the seat.

So what do you think Luciana Berger should have done? Why should she be bullied out of her job because of her background? Why should she switch to Libs or Tories when she doesn't share their core values?Billy Balfour wrote:Fair enough, Lancs. I actually have a bit of respect for Soubry . At least she is upfront and honest about why she's resigning, unlike some of the others on the Labour side. .
And as Chair of the Friends of Israel group, what was Joan Ryan supposed to do, just ignore the current anti-semitism that Corbyn has repeatedly failed to address?
In leaving she said:
"The Labour Party under Jeremy Corbyn has become infected with the scourge of anti-Jewish racism. The problem simply did not exist in the party before his election as leader.
"No previous Labour leader would have allowed this huge shame to befall the party. I have been horrified, appalled and angered to see the Labour leader's dereliction of duty in the face of this evil."
On Tuesday, she told BBC Radio 4's Today programme that she would not trigger a by-election in her constituency, as she won her seat in 2017 "in spite of [Mr Corbyn], not because of him".
"I didn't win my seat on his coat tails," she added.

Not bizarre at all if you think sufficiently about it.DCWat wrote:You’re not a half decent human being, if you vote Lib Dem? Bizarre.

Why would I "trust" you? You are clueless. Your posts are ill informed and asinine.Billy Balfour wrote:They should all be out now or at least be willing to put their case to their constituents. But they won't because they think they know best. It's this contempt for the electorate that got us into this mess in the first place.
With regards to Chuka Umunna: The split is a gamble he's willing to take because he has nothing to lose. His parliamentary career was over in the Labour Party. Corbyn and Momentum could be over tomorrow and this would still be the case. If he's out at the next GE, I will bet good money on it that he'll be rewarded with a cushy number in a 'thinktank' somewhere. Trust me, this is how it usually works.

The Labour Party was in the process of investigating the conduct of some members of the Liverpool Wavertree branch. Maybe she could have waited until its outcome.nil_desperandum wrote:So what do you think Luciana Berger should have done? Why should she be bullied out of her job because of her background? I don't know what to make of Joan Ryan when she says that the problem of antisemitism 'simply did not exist in the party' before Corbyn became its leader because this isn't true.
Anyway, I really don't want to defend Labour or the Tory Party here. My point is that their constituents deserve byelections. It's ok for some members of this new grouping to say the public are crying out for this group - well put it to the test!

Not jumping to any conclusions, and I'm not sure how the article and video really says / reveals anything new that could possibly defend the anti-semitic bullying of a pregnant Jewish MP by her own party members, and the failure of the Party leader to address it.South West Claret. wrote:Before you jump to conclusions ND have look at this video https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2017/01/ ... 17792.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Re: The Independent Group of MP's ...
Idiots. There was a 'People's Vote, they voted for Brexit. There should be no opposition to Brexit at all, that's poor politics, enervating the soul of the nation and tantamount to treason. A second referendum is silly. They are just bad losers and nothing more.

Re: The Independent Group of MP's ...
I wholeheartedly agree. The handling of this has been terrible, but for an MP to say it didn't exist before Corbyn is quite disingenuous.nil_desperandum wrote:failure of the Party leader to address it.
Councillors and LP members have been suspended for online antisemitic abuse and some of the posts dated back to Brown and Miliband's time, maybe even further, I can't remember off hand. Antisemitism has always been there. It's wrong to says this is solely a Corbyn issue.
Corbyn made matters worse because his handling of this has been poor. He should have adapted the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance's definition of antisemitism right from the off instead of procrastinating for weeks on end.

If you fancy a laugh, the gin soaked Anna Sourface is taking an absolute pasting on LBC right now, she's in for James O'Bigot.

I was only thinking about thrashing it out with Heidi Allen on a large double bed with plenty of space around and far away from others.
I WAS considering nibbling the back of her ankle over Brexit, but she's married.

I think Corbyns views on Ms Begum are a real vote catcher in the North. Of course I'm being faceatious. Agree with him or not it will annoy workers of the Midlands and North and lose him votes and once again shows who he really has sympathies for.ClaretMoffitt wrote:splits the left wing vote, keeps the commies out.
