A report in today's press states that Austria's council of ministers have decreed that Ashley Barnes does not meet the criterea for naturalisation, therefore ending his Austrian international career before it starts, at senior level ....
It's always seemed to me that he's been rather indifferent to the prospect, in any event ...

They do seem to harbour strong views about racial purity in that corner of the world.

I met two Austrian guys in the early 20s buying burnley shirts in the club shop after the match on Saturday.
They were getting names printed on their shirts, not surely if it was 'Barnes 10' mind.

I’d prefer that Ash concentrated solely on his Burnley Career right now, anyway. The next couple of seasons, should he remain injury free, could well be the most productive of his career.

Bill Bryson tells a story in one of his travels in Europe books. He was dragged of the street into a barbers and they cut his hair. Not racial purity but shows what an obnoxious bunch they can be. It’s not all the sound of music.

According to the Daily Mail Austria's Council of Ministers have declared that Ashley does not meet the criteria for naturalisation and is thus not eligible to be selected for the Austrian national team. They met yesterday to consider the application.

That said I can't imagine any defender in the world enjoying playing against Bashley

You’re absolutely right.
That one isolated incident in a book written by somebody you’ve never met is certainly sufficient for me to consider a whole nation obnoxious.

Julie Andrews liked it.
Have to say I enjoyed three really good trips there for pre-season when Cotterill was manager.

If the likes of Callum Wilson are getting call ups then surely Ash can't be far off an England call. He's different to every other striker in and around the England side.

I love the Austrian Tyrol. We try to go a couple of times a year. I like the people too. Much like folk in most countries - you treat people decently and they tend to reciprocate it.

Didn't realise Burnley shirts were popular in the 1920's m8 especially amongst young Austrian males

The way he is playing, he would be an excellent foil for Kane!

He's not fashionable though, that's the problem.

They couldn’t have been any better. Lovely area to go for a few days and we always got two games.

If Ashley Barnes didn't play for us would you all be calling for him to get an England call up? As good as he's been for us the bloke is nowhere near international class unfortunately.

Given an England quality delivery, he would bury lots of the chances.
