Preferably someone who can:
Trap a ball
Outpace big Wes Morgan in a 50/50 race
Get 50% of his chances on target
If we can find someone with above qualities we will have a far better player than the legend that is Andre. A legend in his own head.

Gray's replacement has to have pace at a bare minimum. We work well when we can knock a ball into space for him. People suggesting Long - I think he could do a job short term, but he's frustrating with his touch and offsides, much like Gray.
I'd love us to go and get a youngish lad, 26 max, with that pace to burn.

In all fairness its only the motor industry that I generally give as close to an expert opinion as I can, I've even been mentioned by name and I try to be helpful where I can both on here and if contacted away from here because I'm not fussed about handing out my email address.UpTheBeehole wrote:I'd liken my knowledge of football to your knowledge of Land Rover parts, history, politics, the NHS, and every other subject you chip in as an expert on
You've seen my list of experience from my career thread, so I can definitely best you in that area and I've done so quite easily when you were throwing a wobbly about a car manufacturer moving out of England, something you never came back too when you clearly realised you were losing that one.
As for the other stuff I give an opinion and I'm willing to accept I'm wrong on stuff, I've even said as such on here.
As for football, you're the one who's accused the owners of Burnley of failing in their duty as custodians of the club, so sitting there and saying there's a lack of footballing knowledge on this forum was massively ironic coming from you.

The bundesliga outside Bayern and one or two others is very poor standard. And HSV have been one of the biggest underachievers for years. Wood is an average player in a poor team.

The exciting, attacking football we played against Bristol City, Brentford, Huddersfield, Charlton and so on was very good. Promotion as champions felt amazing.

It's amazing how well Bayern and those one or two others do against teams from England given how poor their usual opposition iscricketfieldclarets wrote:The bundesliga outside Bayern and one or two others is very poor standard. I said he'd be a gamble fwiw but I see a lot of similarities to Gray who, when we signed him, was playing for a weaker team and at a lower level than HSV. I'd say he's far from average (also far from world class) but agree to disagree.

Its not amazing really. Given the squad they have. They rarely have to get out of second gear domestically.
Wood is average in my opinion. Replacing our most valuable striker with a player whos best season to date is the exact same as Rouwen Hennings - 17 in Bundesliga 2 is not a recipe for success.

The Troy Deeney that certainly knows where the net is. I would have him at Burnley in a heartbeat. He is injured though at present.

Re: If Gray goes who would you like in
Regardless of your squad if you're barely tested domestically, as you're suggesting they're not, then facing stronger teams he results would more often than not be horrible. They're not and it can't be purely down to the squad.cricketfieldclarets wrote:Its not amazing really. Given the squad they have. They rarely have to get out of second gear domestically.

Using a comparison to Hennings is deliberately misleading. I'd say his "best season" was probably last season, his first in the Bundesliga with 5 goals in 23 starts (a level that Hennings managed 1 goal in 10). At 24 (younger than Hennings when he signed for us) he's got plenty of potential and has the attributes to do well in England, albeit a gamble.
Who would your suggestion be to replace Gray cc?

Who would I like in ....
@CB Scott Brown or Craig Dawson
@RW Jota or Snodgrass
@Striker Samuel Armenteros or Timo Werner
But think we will pay a rich dividend to the directors and a load of tax to the HRMC but have a right good go with nearly the squad we have.

Re: If Gray goes who would you like in
We should use the gray money to bring in a very good striker on a season long loan. Even if we blow it all on wages for one season we would still end up with the same amount if gray stayed and left for free at the end of the season. Brentford and Luton would prefer us to sell now of course.

Shane Long is just umambitious IMO, no resale value and too much of a "safe" option which I don't think will be enough. Solanke looks good but he's even more unproven than someone like Wood in regards to first team football and I'd be loathe to develop players for other teams if we're not going to be financially rewarded for that. Afobe got 6 goals last season, 5 of those goals were against Swansea, Watford, Burnley and Middlesbrough - Gray got criticism for being a flat track bully and Afobe is worse in that regard. He'd also cost north of what we've got for Gray given it's Bournemouth and they signed him for 12m last Summer.

Juve triggered his release clause (30 Million Euros) in June. Granted, he's still a Samp player after failing two medicals at Juve. But you're hardly going to go from a medical with Juve to chasing aimless punts with Burnley.Slurpy wrote:Patrick Schick.

There are some real 'meh' players available.....
Nahki Wells - Huddersfield will let him go
Jerome Sinclair - Watford (was talked about a lot then went quiet)
Leonardo Ulloa - Leicester
Personally, Afobe ticks a lot of boxes, and is seemingly available, although at a cost.

Yeah, Afobe's possibly the most realistic suggestion on the entire thread. Kind of proven in the Prem and would cost less than twenty million, you'd imagine. Isn't going to start for Bournemouth ahead of King and Defoe and seems to be no frills and Dyche loves no frills.
