Have you had chance to read and digest the actual points I was making yet, rather than heading down this little employment law cul-de-sac? (I said “pretty soon”, not “immediately” so that’s a moot point, really).

Of course I haven't read or digested your comments. I haven't read them because my reply above is quite clearly an answer to Siddo. I'm not even aware of your comment. I was simply answering him after he commented on something I said before Christmas so if I have missed yours my apologies. Perhaps you should notice who I am quoting before you go off on a rant.

Take a look at post 94 on this thread. You replied to me to say you hadn’t had chance to read all I had written but just addressed my p45 comment. This is what took the conversation down an employment law route (which, to me, rather misses the point).

I’m not sure my last post qualified as a rant. Did I upset you?

My apologies mate if I was a bit gruff in my reply. Not had the best Christmas ever as my wifes dad died on the 21st so I'm a bit stressed handling stuff for her. Not an excuse I know but sorry anyway.

I'm afraid mate that a cross section of females (I have just spoken to a number of women in the office) says you are wrong. Not one (not even one) said that if they had done something stupid would be offended at being called a 'a stupid woman'. They would not hesitate to call a man a stupid man in similar circumstances and think that it should work both ways. Political correctness, unfortunately, doesn't take into account common sense or humour. This is the problem that most people have with PC, it has a complete lack of context and there is no give or take. It tries to force everone into a procrustean bed of sameness which most people do not want. I used to have a Asian friend at work a few years ago and we used to trade insults based on race with good humour and fun, neither of us took offence at the other and we were good mates. One day one of the people in the office (a woman dare I say) pulled me up for using a racist term to my mate, to which I said 'He doesn't mind so why should you, take it up with him'. People should stop taking offence and bloody grow up. There is a difference between an alledged racist comment that is meant as an insult and one that is made in fun with no harm intended and if some people can't see this it says more about them than it does about the person saying it.
