Re: Rovers v Ipswich... What Should Happen?
Heard it on Undr the Cosh a few times that in the 13/14 season Doncaster were beating Charlton 3-0 away from home and the game was abandoned.
The game was replayed and Charlton won 1-0, at the end of the season Doncaster were relegated by 1 point.

Re: Rovers v Ipswich... What Should Happen?
I think the red card will be null and void because the abandoned game has been removed from the records, so no red or yellow cards, no goalscorer credit, no other match statistics will exist.

This was a Rovers fan on their site at 2.30 Saturday.
Pitch looks ok. Water still flowing out into river, about six inch before drainage pipe touches River.
It will keep happening.

Are Accy Clarets doing a coach for the replay?
Re: Rovers v Ipswich... What Should Happen?
Nixon is having a massive meltdown on twitter about the decision bless him

Re: Rovers v Ipswich... What Should Happen?
It had to be a full replay though, didn’t it? You can’t recreate the physical exertion of 80 minutes, on a bog of a pitch, in the ******* rain and just play the remaining time.
Is it unfair? Possibly, but a Champ side should not have pitch issues like that.
Is it hilarious? Undoubtedly, but it’s their own fault.

Re: Rovers v Ipswich... What Should Happen?
I've read most of the thread and the only point I haven’t seen mentioned is that Greaves will serve his 1 match ban at the next Ipswich game, as is normal. He will then be eligible for the replay, unless that match is his next. Unlikely.

It wouldn’t be fair to nullify the red card, don’t know what it was for but if it was ,eg for violent conduct ( perhaps kicking the ref ) player shouldn’t be allowed to get off free because a game is abandoned.Im_not_Robbie_Blake wrote: ↑Thu Sep 25, 2025 6:04 pmI think the red card will be null and void because the abandoned game has been removed from the records, so no red or yellow cards, no goalscorer credit, no other match statistics will exist.
Re: Rovers v Ipswich... What Should Happen?
I think Ipswich should let them score from kick-off in a show of fair play when it's replayed.
Then beat them 5-1.
Then beat them 5-1.

I genuinely don't understand all of the "its not fair" snowflake journalists.
Do they really expect Ipswich to rock up for 10 minutes.
5hit happens, the game was abandoned, get on with it.
Is Henry Winter a Rovers fan?

Not that it'd ever happen but I'd genuinely toss the coin & see where fortune falls. I think all suspended matches should be decided in that way the result stands or a replay whether it's 5 mins in or 85 whatever the scoreline.

It was a DOGSO, outside the area. 1 match ban.Holmechapel wrote: ↑Thu Sep 25, 2025 8:19 pmIt wouldn’t be fair to nullify the red card, don’t know what it was for but if it was ,eg for violent conduct ( perhaps kicking the ref ) player shouldn’t be allowed to get off free because a game is abandoned.
Re: Rovers v Ipswich... What Should Happen?
For a journalist, he has strangely little imagination and very little knowledge of football history. He asks, what happens if fans cause an abandonment? Quite obviously the same as precedent has already established. Man u v Man C. end of season 1973-74, Law scored, Man U fans invaded the pitch, game abandoned, result stands. What happens if the match is abandoned for floodlight failure? They check whose fault it was, and if it wasn't malice or incomptence by the home side, full replay.billyhamilton82 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 25, 2025 8:31 pmI genuinely don't understand all of the "its not fair" snowflake journalists.

Winter seems to think this decision was made in a vacuum, and there has never been a similar circumstance in history. Does he genuinely not know that abandoned matches are relatively common?
(Incidentally, there is only one way to make it "fair". That is to wave a magic wand and stop it from raining. There is no other way to finish an abandoned match that is scrupulously "fair" to all concerned.)

I think the only injustice here is that b@stards weren't fined for having rubbish drainage.

Talking fairness ,how about a full refund of all costs for Ipswich fans who travelled and an assurance to the EFL that s total revamp of the pitch will happen at the end of the season.

Re: Rovers v Ipswich... What Should Happen?
I believe they are looking to rename their stands to bring some synergy to the others. Whilst the dilapidated wreck we see to the right of the away end when we visit for our now obligatory Clarets victory will still retain the Riverside title, the other 3 stands will now be known as Lakeside

Re: Rovers v Ipswich... What Should Happen?
They can't argue the red card - the playing or not playing of a fixture is under the jurisdiction of the league (in this case the Football League) but all disciplinary matters are for the FA.

If only Ipswich were on the opposite side of the UK, then they could have had the red card cancelled by the Welsh FA.

I’m disappointed that this game is being replayed
When clearly any sane person would have wanted the 3 points awarded to Ipswich

I always thought Nixon was a parody accody when he celebrates being first to tell the world of an u18 player signing for Fleetwood, with an aye.ElectroClaret wrote: ↑Fri Sep 26, 2025 12:29 amNixon....."If Ipswich have integrity, they should let Blackburn score and then withdraw a player......"

His stance on this replayed game just confirms it.
Full on whopper.

They could always play 10 minutes with the sprinklers on!

I think this awful news for the fan , you sit through 80 minutes of complete dross then have to come back for another 90

Re: Rovers v Ipswich... What Should Happen?
We should withdraw ours as well. For years they’ve only been interested in the Barstewards, now they’ll be fawning after us to fill the drivel/ad riddled pages, so we should tell em to sod off.randomclaret2 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 26, 2025 7:01 pmNot directly connected but I see our neighbours have withdrawn the Lancashire Telegraph's accreditation
Re: Rovers v Ipswich... What Should Happen?
would have to replay the whole game.
In 1961 in FA Cup the match between Luton v Man City was abandoned half way through the second half due to torrential rain. City we 6-2 up and Denis Law had scored all 6
Luton won the re-scheduled game 3-1.
No way can the result stand or the last 10minutes played

Re: Rovers v Ipswich... What Should Happen?
Blackburn have put in an objection after today's game, hoping to get a replay. They are complaining Charlton didn't water the pitch.
