Can’t agree here, Bellingham has played there all season in an unbelievable season for Madrid. Next to Rice wouldn’t make us any better, you need a controller in there, someone who can receive the ball in tight areas, turn and play through the lines… we’ve got a couple of them on the bench.
Well we cannot drop Bellingham and Foden is player of the year in that position.

I don’t think he plays that role for Madrid. It is technically further forward but it is more of a forward midfielder than off the striker, and he supports two strikers in Rodrygo and Vinicious Jnr. For England we desperately need creativity next to Kane due to Kane’s lack of pace.

So I feel there is no choice but to play one more attacker and one less defender, but I don’t think the manager has it in him, which is why I have wanted him sacked for 4 years.

Bellingham needs to play further back in place of TAA. Foden just behind Kane and Gordon out on the left.

Southgate interview clear he wants a 2nd defending midfielder like Phillips, he cannot trust Bellingham in that role.

Feels like neglect of a major talent because no way Bellingham is a 10. He needs to burst into that position from deep rather than being up there all the time. Otherwise we get both Kane and Bellingham dropping deeper than the role demands.

Poor old Lineker and co are virtually begging for Foden to be moved inside.
He’s played higher up the pitch for Madrid all season

Southgate saying we don't have a natural replacement for Kalvin Phillips  honestly using that as an excuse
For the life in me I could never understand why Southgate continually picked Philips who rarely played because of continuing injuries.
It was beyond obsessive and an insult to other players who may have hoped to be selected.

Jesus Christ - in an extended interview he just said we dont have a left back at the moment . He picked the squad. And we dont have ano centermidfielder - which Trent has been filling in far - total total clown of a manager

Kane, Bellingham, Foden, Rice, Arnold, Saka, Tripper have all had brilliant seasons for their clubs. Then they turn up for England and something has sucked all the energy, pace, positivity, creativity and enthusiasm out of them. It can only be the manager and the tactics.
PS. Credit to Denmark who are actually a more than decent side and absolutely no push over.
Trippier has had a poor season at Newcastle playing his natural position

Could we please have this thread split so that the 20 pages of crying about England are on a separate thread from "euro 2024"? The helpful posts that are posted by those that are lucky to be able to view Turkey v Georgia are getting lost otherwise.

On the England front, it usually takes until the third game to work out that some players who have the luxury of playing for sides full of quality teammates making them look good are not necessarily the ones that are wanted in the team.

Agreed.

I fact, on the odd occasion that warranted it, Gordon looked better as a makeshift left back.

Trippier was okish up to the mid-season injury, but was very accident prone after he came back. Saudi arabia/turkey/usa beckons.

Can't help feeling if Eze is getting game time at a top tournament, why on earth can't Jack Grealish even make it onto the plane!!!?

I totally agree.
basically GS gets 2 years to sort out his squad and get them training and playing together. I don't see how these late inclusions are meant to be up to speed tactically.

It's absolutely remarkable Southgate can have this amount of talent and make them look so lost, like the versions of themselves at club level are a different player entirely.

I'm fed up of him trying to shoehorn his chums in there.

We don't have a lb, he's preferred Gomez and Trippier when Dan Burn and/or Tyrick Mitchell would have done a perfectly fine job.

He's playing a right back at CM when Jude Bellingham, up until the last 8 months of his career has done that. I don't buy that he simply HAS to be in behind Kane.

Phil Foden does his best work coming in off the right or through the middle. Everyone who has a pair of eyes knows this. If you prefer Saka, fine, just put him on the bench instead of trying to shoehorn him in.

Palmer, coming off the back of a breakout season hasn't had a sniff.

It's depressing watching that shite but I still will, god knows why.

Bellingham Rice
Saka Palmer Eze
Kane

Next please

GS still calling the Alexander Arnold thing 'an experiment'.

Call me old fashioned but isn't the group stage of a major tournament too late to be conducting experiments?

Don't get me started on Trippier.

Apart from that, no shape, no tactics.

This is the point, Trippier isn't a left back.

Can't cross with his left, and struggling when the opposing winger goes outside him.
