Has anyone said there will be zero outgoings? I’m happy we are still in a position where we don’t have to wait for outgoings before we can afford new players.Colburn_Claret wrote: ↑Fri Jul 19, 2024 4:45 pmI cant believe we have signed 5, and lost nobody, when the squad was already 10 men heavy.
15 players is a hell of a lot to place, and if we don't lose them we will have a very disgruntled squad.
The board have their own way of doing things, which is their right, often at the upset of the fans, but this situation makes no sense and if not sorted could impact our whole season.
I’m quite sure SP is taking a long, hard look at all his playing staff before making any decisions, and so he should. I’d be very unhappy if he didn’t.

It's interesting that someone who was touted as too good for the Championship seemingly didn't have a sniff from any PL teams.

I'm not disagreeing that SP should assess the squad. It's just the length of time we've taken to get him on board, has impacted the time he has to decide and move on excess players.bobinho wrote: ↑Sat Jul 20, 2024 4:04 pmHas anyone said there will be zero outgoings? I fear, though it's only an opinion, that we are painting ourselves into a corner. The longer it takes the less money we'll raise, the fewer loans we'll make.
My biggest fear is we start the season with more than 26 players in the training ground, because it would be detrimental to the team to have unhappy players in the building.

I honestly feel like there's so, so many players like that out there. Come into the game in slightly unorthodox ways, don't have a reputation so always need an opportunity somewhere, often through good fortune, to show what they can do on the big stage.

There will be a good number loaned or sold.
You’re worried we’ll not loan enough players in? Why?
Stop imagining doomsday scenarios, chill out and enjoy the summer UTC

The majority of transfers in a window happen in the last week, clubs are often wide apart in valuations and there is an element of brinkmanship going on. I'm actually happy we have signed the majority of players we need to plug the gaps early on. We probably will need two or three more if players leave i.e. Trafford, Berge etc. but really as it stands we have everything in place to start the season.Colburn_Claret wrote: ↑Sat Jul 20, 2024 5:44 pmI'm not disagreeing that SP should assess the squad. Parker has had two weeks already with another three weeks to go, the vast majority of players already know each other so it's not like he's having to integrate a lot of new players like Kompany did.
I think we are in a good place at the moment, hopefully we can keep the players we want and start the season strongly.

Tom Heaton is a prime example, a few loans from Manchester United and then two seasons in the Championship for Cardiff and Bristol City before arriving with us. No better example than Cole Palmer at Chelsea. But this is a rumours thread, De Gea is coming to the club.

The Vitinho deal was like those for Benson & Zaroury, they were automatically triggered by the promotion. They all got higher pay and one year extensions on their initial deals.FeedTheArf wrote: ↑Sat Jul 20, 2024 9:46 amFair point. But you’d think us signing Sambo and extending Vitinho at the start of last season would mean we were always looking to move Roberts out. I do think we need a good core of British players in the squad so I’d be hoping to increase the home grown numbers anyway once we can start to move some squad players on.

That’s deffo not happening but I’d love that and it’d make up for the Muric situation a bit for me.
A premier league experienced goalkeeper and a year in the championship to reacclimatise.

Why would it make up for muric? He was hardly an outstanding keeper. People are letting their own personal feelings effect their judgement.

Normally it's 1 or 2 players in, 1 or 2 players out. The problem I keep going back to is we have too many to get rid of in a short time scale. The inflated squad isn't SPs fault, I'm not sure why it was allowed to happen, but I'll be happier when we're back to where a healthy squad should be.

Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
If you’re referring to Muric, I thought he was outstanding. I think his stats backed that up in the premier league last season. He made two horrific errors, granted, but then I could point to Allison or Onana mistakes (more in the latter case) too.
I also think his role in the Championship winning season is hugely under appreciated, where he basically made himself our 12th man. If we return to a more traditional goalkeeping set up next year I expect we’ll see far less possession and win far fewer games (we only lost 3 so very high bar).
So all in all I think a huge loss.
I won’t turn this thread in to a Muric debate but if we signed someone like De Gea it’d go some way towards making up for that although not entirely given he’s 8 years older. His experience at premier league level would be more than useful though.
Pointless discussion though since we won’t be signing him

Latest from Nixon:
Weghorst wants away (no shock) although Parker would like to work with him
Marek Rodak could be going to Hull. We were interested but wage demands don’t suit us. Could go in for him again if Trafford goes. Also looking at Mark Travers, Bournemouth goalkeeper, if Trafford leaves

Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
If we are signing a new keeper to replace Trafford it surely makes sense to target a homegrown one. Travers would meet that requirement but swapping Muric & Trafford for Travers & Hladky would clearly be a downgrade. Rather spend then 3-5m on Cooper from Plymouth.

Travers would suit the Parker system, after playing it before. Cooper is an all round better talent though. I would take rodak on a free over them both, much more experience, still young in goalkeeper terms and classed as home grownRVclaret wrote: ↑Sun Jul 21, 2024 8:12 amIf we are signing a new keeper to replace Trafford it surely makes sense to target a homegrown one. Anyone actually know what is happening with Tresor? It's all a bit cloak and daggers for me.
1. Sign him on deadline day on loan with a view to a permanent move
2. Hardly plays under VK, and when he does, he looks miles off it.
3. Permanent move is triggered by appearances during the season.
4. Rumours fly around that we tried to pull out of the deal.
5. Sign him officially on July 1st for 18 million
Now everyone saying he's not turned up and he wants out. TBH if all these rumours are correct, I side with him a little bit if he knows the club didn't want him and tried to pull out of the deal.
I'm wondering why this isn't being made more of an issue considering he is our record signing?

Re: Tresor, just on the price, I think it was €18m so £15m.
I’d be very surprised if that were all guaranteed and didn’t reduce when we didn’t stay up.
I struggle to feel sorry for him because he looked really weak on the ball every time he played for us. Clearly something in there though, just maybe not cut out for the pace and intensity of the premier league.
Bit of a mess that particularly transfer. Gibson-esque.

No idea, but if the rumours are true, the best thing for all parties is probably a loan out. It gives him a chance to rebuild his reputation and gives us more of a chance to recoup a higher fee in 12 months time.Ric_C wrote: ↑Sun Jul 21, 2024 10:26 amAnyone actually know what is happening with Tresor? Even if there are takers, selling him this summer almost guarantees a huge hair cut.

It’s a bizarre situation, depending on who you listen to Kompany treat him badly or he had a crap attitude (likely both), but not turning up to training seems incredibly unprofessional.
Thing is he’ll probably get a decent loan to someone like Club Brugge, Fenerbache or Ajax and do well, and we’ll be left wondering wtf.
