Re: Chelsea versus MIGHTY CLARETS
McNeil in no way responsible for the goal, he did track back but had no chance of catching the player. Pieters was responsible as he kept backing off and made no attempt to put a foot in

Certainly didn't look that way to me. He let a player who barely has any pace easily beat him. He gave up too easily putting Pieters in a difficult situation.

Re: Chelsea versus MIGHTY CLARETS
Chelski are playing well but the ref is on hand to make sure that Tuchel has a warm welcome to the Prem. The tw@t with the whistle can't wait to give them a pen. Just watch 2nd half

They targeted Pieters all through the half, McNeil should have been supporting more

Re: Chelsea versus MIGHTY CLARETS
You can’t say McNeill was in no way responsible considering it was his man who ran the length of the pitch and ended up putting the ball in the back of the net.Top Claret wrote: ↑Sun Jan 31, 2021 12:56 pmMcNeil in no way responsible for the goal, he did track back but had no chance of catching the player. Anyway there’s not really a need to find a player to blame. Teams score goals. Hope we can respond like we did against Villa.

Re: Chelsea versus MIGHTY CLARETS
You need to watch it again. He made every effort to get back in position. He was trying to support an attack which people often criticise the team for not doing enough.superdimitri wrote: ↑Sun Jan 31, 2021 12:57 pmCertainly didn't look that way to me. Re: Chelsea versus MIGHTY CLARETS
McNeil has been awful up front in continently loosing possession and didn't track back faster enough for the goal.superdimitri wrote: ↑Sun Jan 31, 2021 12:48 pmEven when McNeil was power walking back? We know Dyche expects better from his wingers. I like McNeil but he's having a very poor game today.
If he doesn't improve he should be subbed.

Re: Chelsea versus MIGHTY CLARETS
He wasn't trying anything like as hard as Azpilacueta was to get forward. It's essentially his man to cover and he left Pieters 2 vs 1. Just a mistake, but he needs to be a little more aware there, surely.

I don't think lunging in there is a good idea, he stood him up well. He can't be expected to also cover the runner.

Mcneil needs to help pieters. Shockingly poor so far in defending out wide

Re: Chelsea versus MIGHTY CLARETS
We've done OK for most of that half, pity about their goal, but it was well worked and finished.
We are well in this game, but yes I agree we do need to test their defence more, if we do that we may well get some joy, because I'm not convinced about their backline whatsoever, but we have to give them something to think about 2nd half.

Re: Chelsea versus MIGHTY CLARETS
He covered loads of ground. I'm not saying he wasn't at any fault. But it wasn't down to the lack of effort to get back in position...it was because he was out of position in the first place... trying to support an attack.burnleymik wrote: ↑Sun Jan 31, 2021 1:00 pmHe wasn't trying anything like as hard as Azpilacueta was to get forward. Re: Chelsea versus MIGHTY CLARETS
I've watched it a few times. He sprinted for a couple of seconds and then gave up. Meanwhile he let's a centre half sprint past. As mentioned above McNeil has been very poor considering their tactics to attack his side. He needs to do better. Pieter's gets some stick compared to Taylor not getting forward enough but maybe moments like that are why he stays back more often.

Pulisic on, Chelsea realised that they can`t outjump our two brilliant centre halves but can outrun the two slowest full backs in the prem

Oh! great Pulisic on for Abraham. just what we need not.
Re: Chelsea versus MIGHTY CLARETS
For what it’s worth, I think we’re still in this, and personally I think Villa are currently a better team than this Chelsea team, and we overcome them

Re: Chelsea versus MIGHTY CLARETS
By just standing him up he allowed Azpilicueta the time he needed to come through, in that sitiation you have to put a tackle in, it's that simple.burnleymik wrote: ↑Sun Jan 31, 2021 1:01 pmI don't think lunging in there is a good idea, he stood him up well. Re: Chelsea versus MIGHTY CLARETS
He was definitely trying to get back, but watch the effort from Azpilecueta and watch the effort level from Dwight, one of them definitely wanted it more than the other. I don't think we should scapegoat, but Dwight has to be more aware and try a bit harder there for me. It was a good finish though.

Its a game we shouldnt win anyway. Not ideal for vyds to get a run but needs to start somewhere. Barnes and wood would be ideal today

Re: Chelsea versus MIGHTY CLARETS
We’ll need to step up or they’ll need to drop off mate.
Can’t remember the last time we had less of the play.
Re: Chelsea versus MIGHTY CLARETS
You might laugh but you said you were happy with it considering it resulted in a goal, who's the fool?

Re: Chelsea versus MIGHTY CLARETS
I’d like to take my mums approach to the crying out and I think we should give them something to actually cry about...

Lucky with that handball... About the only decision that's gone our way. Scott doing his bit to help Chelsea's game management.
