Re: Name the next manager
Why on Earth would the first photo call of a new prospective Burnley manager be in a pub? Call me old fashioned if you like, and the chap may indeed like a drink or two, but I would have thought it more conventional to be on the club premises.

But if your chilling out, out of the way and a fan sees you (a recognised celebrity/sportsman) and asks you for a pic, what would you do tell them to Fec off?Cirrus_Minor wrote: ↑Sun May 29, 2022 11:12 pmWhy on Earth would the first photo call of a new prospective Burnley manager be in a pub? It’s not the first photo call though. It’s Kompany being asked for a pic by someone else in there.Cirrus_Minor wrote: ↑Sun May 29, 2022 11:12 pmWhy on Earth would the first photo call of a new prospective Burnley manager be in a pub? When does the youth tournament end?
I would assume the press centre would be used for any announcements/press conference and I can't see them doing that until the tournament ends. It would be a nice touch though if the trophy was to be given to the winners by Kompany, maybe that's the plan.

I thought it was a plan of the owners to get the press to announce Kompany and get their kit noticed.
Showing the national media how good they could put on a youth tournament would also go down well after all the talk in the media of the academy being downgraded.
Maybe it was just too much too organise at once? The press room looked a lot smaller than I thought it would.

Reading the article by Dave Thomas today VK or whoever comes in is going to have to work with peanuts to strengthen the squad. The article lays the blame for relegation firmly at tge feet of the last owners. But of course we knew that. But not only for fattening the coffers prior to the sale and spending zilch on reinforcements for SD to work with, but for the wirst type of sale. Leveraged to people with no money.

Like you say, the media centre was a bit small/shabby although tbf I had just seen the Spurs one a few weeks back so perhaps an unfair assessment!
AI Scout was pretty impressive though. Staff were all extremely friendly and professional, and that £2m coach was massively impressive. They can’t be short of investment to buy that!!! When you think they’ll have been gathering data on all the tournaments young players in that thing, you start to see that there must be some value in it somewhere.

Oldest trick in the book in journalism. Always blame the people who left. If you blame the people still at the club you don't get any stories or looked after.Stayingup wrote: ↑Mon May 30, 2022 10:17 amReading the article by Dave Thomas today VK or whoever comes in is going to have to work with peanuts to strengthen the squad. There's at least one thing though - he says the accounts reveal over £100m of debt, that isn't true.

Dave doesn't really do facts, he writes opinion pieces designed to get people to comment on them (well, I assume that is what it is, its a p**s poor do if he actually believes what he writes about)

Re: Name the next manager
I think Kompany is a good choice. Unlike Buchan and Waddle he has had a manager's post and performed ok. he has far more potential than the likes of Wilder, many of whom are simply just short of the mark. Kompany, if he has learned anything at Anderlecht, has the potential to be very good. Wilder and co have realised their potential
I suspect that the delay is that his lawyers have asked for evidence that the rescheduling of loan repayments is now agreed and fundable.

I wouldn’t compare any appointment to Buchan to be fair.Down_Rover wrote: ↑Mon May 30, 2022 11:28 amI think Kompany is a good choice. I assumed that was a reference to the intercompany debt as evidence of how much had come out of the club for the takeover.

Guesswork. Nobody knows what the cash reserves are now, a full season after the last accounts were prepared and we have saleable assets.RicardoMontalban wrote: ↑Mon May 30, 2022 11:09 amAssuming it’s the one in the Burnley Express last Monday.

Equally the accounts state that repayments are to be agreed between the parties. We will not know the outcome of that until we see the next set of accounts. I once met an Irish property magnate at Galway races as the property crash occurred in Ireland in about 2008. He was worried because his properties were worth £200m and he owed the Banks slightly more. I saw him a year later and he said he has no worries because his portfolio was worth £150m and he owed the Bank £250m. It was the Bank who were worried.
As far as we are concerned if we are asked to pay more money than we can afford they risk losing the lot

Yes, I'm sure that's where the number comes from. It's a bit disingenuous to represent it as a liabilty of the football club when it's actually an asset. This isn't the only article to do that either.

Betfair exchange still offering.
If you put £1 on Kompany you’d get £1.02 back if he was appointed.
£11k on the market in total.

Re: Name the next manager
Wouldn’t surprise me if he didn’t sign now, taking a ridiculous amount of time to announce it , and therefore plenty of time for Kompany to consider other opportunities and whether the club is stable enough.
