Summer transfer window
Re: Summer transfer window
Sunderland agreed a £20m fee with Brighton for Simon Adingra. Decent signing.

Re: Summer transfer window
Think this takes them to £80 odd million. Received 30 for Bellingham and 10 for Watson though. I reckon they’ve still got a fair bit left in them.
Re: Summer transfer window
According to Transfermarkt, Sunderland have spent £71.50mand have sold players for £42.50m so have only spent £29m. We have spent £69.95m but haven't sold anyone yet.

Feels very Burnley summer 2023 for Sunderland. Let’s see if it turns out any differently.

Adingra is a decent signing

Part of me thinks we'll see a more competitive premier league next season.

He's shown that his best years are far, far behind him.CyrilEbokiPoh wrote: ↑Tue Jul 08, 2025 5:13 pmDo not shoot the messenger to be close enough at the club these days this link from someone who is involved in the game who I know. One minute have enough confidence to say it is true or otherwise he informs me that he has heard strong suggestions, we are in for Raheem Sterling.
As I say no idea how accurate this is. But I know Chelsea want to offload players. He’s not in their plans. And we are looking at him as an alternative apparently to Chamberlain and similar profiles alongside 3 more younger players.
There's a reason why he hasn't clicked since Liverpool. He isn't good enough. Could he start for us, possibly, but at the cost to the club, he isn't worth it. I always find his jinking runs funny. He waits for the tackle and then goes the other way. Only if you don't dive in and tackle, he just runs into you as he doesn't have a plan B.

Here’s my list from earlier in the thread for potential players to look at .Hedontplayforyou wrote: ↑Mon Apr 28, 2025 5:03 pmIn relation to this - anyone with a fear of subjective posts and a little bit of fun , you might want to look away now. P.S. hope Long Time Lurker enjoys this and comes back to the board with their posts. Enjoy and/or hate this, either way it hurts nobody but might interest a few . UTC
Here is a list of interesting players(tried to keep it realistic) across Europe who may or may not be in range for us this summer, and may or may not well be of the required standard, after all I’m not the head of recruitment.
Left back -
Bradley Locko (22 years old): Stade Brest player who looks to have the athleticism for the premier league.
Ryan Sessegnon (24 years old) : Fulham player not exclusively a left full back, very attack minded and can play on either flank, had real injury problems in his career so far but definitely a player there.
Right back -
Guela Doue (22 years old): Strasbourg player and current Ivory Coast international at 6ft 1 would bring more physicality to the back line that may well be required this season.
Emil Krafth (30 years old) : Newcastle player with 80 premier league appearances, a steady head who could bring valuable experience to the group, however heard whispers of a new deal at Newcastle .
Holding/Defensive midfield -
Peer Koopmeiners (24 years old) : AZ Alkmaar player , 6ft 1 good passer of the ball and decent from set pieces, something we maybe expected from Shelvey this season.
Leon Avdullahu (21 years old) : Basel player, again 6ft 1, combative midfielder with plenty of potential and resale value.
Tyler Morton (22 years old) : Liverpool player, highly rated midfielder who needs to make the next step in his career, unfortunately played 40 games for our near neighbours but we’ve had success with that before (Keane, Harwood-Bellis)
Central midfielder -
Matthias Svanberg (26 years old): Wolfsburg player, Swedish international combative midfielder, maybe a bit out of our range but good calibre .
Marcelino Nunez (25 years old): Norwich player, last year of contract , the general consensus of Norwich fans seems to be that he could be decent for a lower end Premier league or top European league side . Problem he has is his injury record which could be an issue.
Depending how Sunderland get on in the playoffs - Dan Neil / Jobe Bellingham - both known to Championship , albeit Jobe may well have skyrocketed in value now but he’d be a very good singing for sure.
Number 10 -
Sem Steijn (23 years old) : FC Twente player, scored plenty of goals this season arriving into the box Brownhill like. Always wary of Eredvisie stats when they make the move over here , can be too much of a step up.
Wingers -
Keito Nakamura (24 years old) : Stade Reims player and Japan international , plays predominantly from the left and has good feet, could help with the “brand” overseas if that’s what the club are looking to do.
Sindre Walle Egeli (18 years old): Nordsjaelland winger looks to have real potential and already in the first team. One for the future, big potential.
Zuriko Damitashvilli (24 years old): Saint Etienne winger and Georgian international, versatile, hard working and a good dribbler of the ball.
Nathan Tella (25 years old) - no comments required .
Strikers -
Lucas Stassin (20 years old) : Saint Etienne forward recently joined from Belgian football, has started rather well with their supporters taking well to him.
Franjo Ivanovic (21 years old) : Union SG player with 2 apps for the Croatian National side. Union SG have a decent track record with finding good strikers , will someone take a punt on him now before his stock goes through the roof?
Willem Geubbels (23 years old) : St.Gallen striker who we were linked with in January loosely , looks to be finding his potential this season and has the size and pace for the premier league, may be worth a gamble if a decent price. Monaco paid decent money for him as a young lad .
Mihailo Ivanovic (20 years old): Millwall striker , has hit 11 goals for them in his debut season thus far with just us to play. 6ft2 and rated highly by the Millwall fans . Looks a real prospect.
Yousef Salech (23 years old) : Cardiff striker who caused us problems and scored against us in the away game , at 6ft5 we struggled with him , with their recent relegation he could be cheaper than normal.
Doue as mentioned yesterday is attracting interest from AC Milan.
Jobe Bellingham has joined Dortmund.
The lad Stassin has been linked with us today on “X”
Franjo Ivanovic has been touted about also across Europe .

He’s been pretty poor at Chelsea - except when he destroyed us under Kompany
I just cannot see how we could afford him though - and I also think he’s lost his love of the game

I would be amazed if Sterling is on less than 250k a week, more likely more than that not less.
Makes you wonder how far talks would go asking someone to take around an 80% pay cut

Chelsea would probably pay something towards his wages just to get rid
Re: Summer transfer window
He wouldn’t need to take a pay cut, Chelsea could pay that 80% in return for a loan fee.claretonthecoast1882 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 09, 2025 2:49 pmI would be amazed if Sterling is on less than 250k a week, more likely more than that not less.

Thing with Walker, the talk is on him slowing down to very fast from very very fast not on him being injury prone although I do see that that extra effort puts in him hamstring pulling territoryJakubclaret wrote: ↑Sun Jul 06, 2025 1:03 pmThat depends just how crocked they are & how much they actually contribute. I'm a great believer in people staying fit & contributing. For all the skill defour had & walker has it's no good to man nor beast if they are always on the treatment table getting paid ****loads for not doing anything, but rarely popping up with some magic I'd prefer a steady dependable operator.

Re: Summer transfer window
My point is more that in the 2nd half of last season we were as free scoring as Leeds whilst still better defensivelykentonclaret wrote: ↑Sun Jul 06, 2025 12:49 pmYou appear to have fallen into the same trap as many others into believing that if we are defensively sound as we were in the Championship then we can nick a 1-0 win or maybe a 1-1. But the stats simply do not back that theory up.
In the Championship last season a total of 69 matches ended with a full time score of 1-0. In the Premier League only 29 matches ended with that score line. Likewise in the Championship 78 matches ended 1-1 compared to just 45 in the PL. Similarly with the 2-1 score line, 64 in the Championship against just 33 in the PL.
The lack of sufficient goal threat is one of the main reasons that promoted Championship clubs find it almost impossible to survive for a second season.
I know from painful experience, as do we all, that both those stats are not comparable with how we’ll fare in the Premier League.

It's just life as you get older everything tends to go or if it doesn't it certainly doesn't function like it once did. I think some think folk will be in a for a shock if they are expecting some sort of an hare or greyhound to be running up & down.BleedingClaret wrote: ↑Wed Jul 09, 2025 3:02 pmThing with Walker, the talk is on him slowing down to very fast from very very fast not on him being injury prone although I do see that that extra effort puts in him hamstring pulling territory

Burnley - 39
Leeds - 52
But we were better defensively. Goals conceded in second half of the season:
Burnley - 7
Leeds - 15

Fair enough thought we were closer on goals scored
Just 5 behind on goal difference
More points though I think
Re: Summer transfer window
Trafford only has two years left on his contract and, as time goes on after this window, his valuation will likely decreasehoskinsgoalatswansea wrote: ↑Wed Jul 09, 2025 1:21 pmIt should only be done if our valuation is met, and within a timeframe also dictated by us. And, no matter who, or how many, they send shouldn’t alter this.
Perhaps we have to maximise the deal (whatever it is) this summer - and Newcastle plus others will be aware of this
He could, of course, decide to run down his contract if he can't get any move he wants done this summer
We hold some cards, but not all of them unfortunately

It’s a shame Kalvin Phillips career has nosedived. He’d be perfect alongside Cullen.

There is talk that Trafford fee would nmbe the mist expensive in prem history for an English keeper. So what? There are worse, much more expensive keepers in the prem. Clubs can pay, if they choose.
Re: Summer transfer window
If he is going to leave and as we seem to be on good terms with City can we not ask them to take up the buy back clause

I also read a report in the Independent earlier that suggested Newcastle might call our bluff and wait until the winter transfer window.
Not sure how that makes sense. We don't have any need to do any bluffing. We don't appear to be in dire need to sell him this window, so if the offer isn't enough we keep him. Simple.

What is the current record? Circa 30m for Pickford to Everton a good few years ago? I'd bloody hope so!

Re: Summer transfer window
Brighton rumoured to be buying Petrovic from Chelsea, Chelsea want 25 mill. Puts a bit more perspective to it.
IF Trafford is only worth 25 mill to Newcastle they must have loads more options out there they could pursue.
IF he's the only one good enough for them, then he has to be worth a lot more. They can't have it both ways.

Longstaff and Cajuste to replace brownhill and Shelvey/Massengo would be fantastic
