spot on with the " too fast" comment ecc,ecc wrote: ↑Sat May 31, 2025 5:57 pmDetest everything PSG stand for. The Qatari state, which owns them, have wrecked French football by chucking huge sums at the club for the last 15 years.
But I have to admit this current team plays good football and are too fast for more or less everybody.
Inter have done well this season and I hope they give them a match.
Enrique plays ‘Pep ball’, just with a slightly tweaked version.

PSG have been the second best team throughout the competition after Arteta's Arsenal.
He’s said he is packing it up altogether which is good news
Yup 500 arrested, 2 fatalities, 200 injured, mass pitch invasion at the end of the game. Trouble has followed PSG for a while now. Let's see what the consequences will be.CrosspoolClarets wrote: ↑Sun Jun 01, 2025 11:01 amBBC reporting 2 dead and 192 injured in connection with the riotous celebrations last night.
Awful end to a great performance and it made me wonder, what would be the uproar if that had happened in the UK? It would be outrage I’d suggest, all over the news with changes to the future policing and maybe the law probably resulting. Do we hold ourselves to a higher standard and do we simply accept it overseas as being a cultural norm?
Brits are good at criticising ourselves but we in the UK should acknowledge we are the best at many things, such as ensuring our top sporting events are generally safe and family oriented. That is something to be proud of.
Thoughts to those affected in France, of course.

Indeed! I seem to recall a few celebrities/wealthy people having their watches nicked by these idiots at this game! Nothing a baton or two wouldn’t sort out!!Darnhill Claret wrote: ↑Sun Jun 01, 2025 12:15 pmWe don't always get it right do we?
Crosspool, I seem to remember a game at Wembley, relatively recently, when gates were broken down, for ticketless fans to get in, and many reports of fear amongst innocent and rampaging fans in and around the ground, before and after the game.
I am sure that there are countries with better records concerning violence and crowd control.
Are we the best at many/any things anymore? A genuine question because I am struggling to see what we are best at?!?!CrosspoolClarets wrote: ↑Sun Jun 01, 2025 11:01 amBBC reporting 2 dead and 192 injured in connection with the riotous celebrations last night.

Shocking scenes. French police have huge resources too compared to what we have here. After the Bataclan they were able to deploy 80k (armed) officers in the manhunt. We’d probably be able to muster a minibus of PCSO’s.CrosspoolClarets wrote: ↑Sun Jun 01, 2025 11:01 amBBC reporting 2 dead and 192 injured in connection with the riotous celebrations last night.

Funny, they all take to the streets “ fighting “,and “ demonstrating “, against what? God only knows. Where was their show of force when the Nazis were around? Yet another meek surrender from the Gaels. Horrible people.CyrilEbokiPoh wrote: ↑Mon Jun 02, 2025 10:21 amIs it just me, or does France seem like the most unstable Country in Western Europe? No mate, I’m not complaining, I am asking a genuine question to try to understand which metric we can use to identify exactly what we are the best at as a nation.
Sorry. I mean that’s what we as a nation are best at.Ampth7 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 04, 2025 4:48 pmNo mate, I’m not complaining, I am asking a genuine question to try to understand which metric we can use to identify exactly what we are the best at as a nation.
I personally like where I live and count myself fortunate, however, I genuinely can’t think of anything that sets us above every other country and the data/evidence does not help!
Here’s a list of possible metrics and I’ll let you and others decide how ‘well’ we are doing -
NHS
Education
Political leadership
Cultural identity
Economy
Law and order
Security and defence
I rest my case…..![]()

Isn't a "peaceful riot" an oxymoron?HahaYeah wrote: ↑Mon Jun 02, 2025 9:42 amhttps://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/ckgqyg325gno
While clashes broke out near the city's Champs-Élysées avenue and PSG's Parc des Princes stadium, the majority of fans celebrated PSG's 5-0 win over Inter Milan peacefully, with many singing and dancing in the streets or blaring their car horns.
These riots are mostly peaceful.
A few points here:Claretitus wrote: ↑Mon Jun 02, 2025 7:53 pmFunny, they all take to the streets “ fighting “,and “ demonstrating “, against what? God only knows. Where was their show of force when the Nazis were around? Yet another meek surrender from the Gaels. Horrible people.
It’s pretty easy to say France didn’t put up a fight. But people forget they didn’t have the one thing we had very much in our favour - being completely surrounded by sea!ecc wrote: ↑Fri Jun 06, 2025 7:28 pmA few points here:
Whenever there are mass gatherings in France e.g. demonstrations, a certain number of individuals take advantage of the police being rather busy to :
i) chuck objects around;
ii) smash up buildings, cars, shops etc;
ii) loot
iv) have a go at the police
Some of these people are politically motivated (far left/far-right/anarchists), others are lads (or older lads) up for a "laugh".
Concerning WWII:
The British clichés about France during the war are a little simplistic. Yes, the French didn't withstand the German invasion for long. For a number of reasons.
However, it's not right to portray all French people as cowards. Today is 6 June. D-Day. The Free French Forces took part as they did in the invasion of Provence, the liberation of Corsica and parts of North Africa.
It should also be recalled that thousands of French men and women joined the different Resistance forces during the Nazi occupation of the country.
THAT is a very important point. It's well-known Hitler had a plan devised to invade England (Operation Sea Lion). Fortunately, for different reasons it was shelved.CyrilEbokiPoh wrote: ↑Sun Jun 08, 2025 12:07 amIt’s pretty easy to say France didn’t put up a fight.
