Can you please give me your email ?ClaretTony wrote:Peter Noble has been ill for some time and I'm not surprised at today's news. I'm shocked though. I spent many hours talking to him in the market hall, as many did. Lovely man. He's at peace now and my thoughts are with his wife Jenny and his two daughters.
What a player he was for us.
I'll get something on site as soon as I can.
Re: Peter Noble
Jack I knew your Uncle very well and often had a natter with him over a drink. To him everyone was called son, as he said it was always easier than trying to remember all the names of people he knew.
He told me of the time Jimmy Adamson had walked up the fields behind his house from Jims house on Brunshaw Rd, so nobody saw him. When he opened the back door and saw Jim, he asked why did you not come round to the front door. He said I didn't want to be seen by anybody to see me, because I've come to ask you to sign for me at Sunderland. After he left your Aunt Jennie said why do we want to leave Burnley, we're settled here, even though they're from the North East.
Peter decided it would be a good opportunity to talk over a wage rise with Bob Lord. During the meeting with Bob, Peter said can I have a rise or I'm going to consider putting in a transfer request. Bob replied I won't give you a rise, but what I will do is make you the captain and Peter replied, but I'm already captain Mr Lord.
Needless to say he stayed.
When Peter signed for Newcastle his dad a Sunderland fan was gutted.

Re: Peter Noble
Having moved away from Burnley in the late 60's I only met him once on the market stall and was impressed by his gentle, quiet manner and friendliness as I made a modest purchase. I saw him play only a few times but he was the mainstay of the team, despite playing in several positions. He epitomised the professional player of his day and should have had wider recognition of his talents. It is a sad day to hear this news when we are rejoicing in our club's triumph.

It's very humbling reading these messages, burnley have and always will be my second team.
I think it's a testament to the club and the fans that he chose to make Burnley his home.
I've many fond memories of working in the shop and meeting a lot of wonderful people.

My first ever computer password such was my admiration for the man and naivity towards hackers. One of our greatest ever mid-fielders and a genuinly nice bloke. Can you imagine a top top midfielder in the modern era having a market stall when retiring He was though such an unassuming likeable people person I think he would still have a market stall so he could still talk football to fans. One of those rare beautiful people who you genuinly have never heard a bad word about.RIP. and thanks for the memories especially the 4 v Norwich when we drew at home.

Very sad news to hear Peter Noble has passed away.
A brilliant player and a true Claret.
Like many on here I Remember fondly his hat-trick against Boro then the four goals against Norwich in the 1975-6 season, his winning goal at Arsenal the season before.
A belting player and lovely chap. RIP Peter.

Those four goals against Norwich will be forever etched in the memory. I believe Peter was one of only two Burnley players to have scored four goals in a game and not be on the winning side.
But my abiding memory will always be those special penalties, he never missed one for us (was it 27 in total?) and yet he never even took one throughout the rest of his professional career, either before or after his time at Burnley.
A truly remarkable man and footballer. RIP Uwe.

Bought my shirt for the Sherpa van final off Peter. Star struck.
I'm just a few years too young to have seen him play but from everything I know of the player and man, he is truely worthy of the status of 'Burnley Legend'
RIP Peter, and thank you

One of my earliest Claret memories was Noble in the V neck.
Wonderful player, I met him on a couple of occasions in Burnley market hall and he was always willing to chat with the fans.

My oldest memory of watching a Burnley player in the late 70s. I could barely see over people's heads on the Beehole end but I can clearly remember Peter Noble and he was the talisman. Sad day for BFC. This fella was a legend.

Ruined the day for me. My hero. Growing up in Burnley in the 1970s, attending St Ted's and living up Brunshaw, he was a brilliant footballer, outstanding captain and it is a disgrace that he did not play for England. i have only one regret. As I came out of Adam Blacklaw's shop on Brunshaw Road with my Shoot (1976) annual featuring Peter Noble on the front of it, He drew up in his car and got out. Despite a beaming smile, I was too overwhelmed to ask for his autograph. Rest in Peace, Uwe.

True legend-so glad I saw him play. A tremendous right back when he joined, a great striker when played up front, and an immense midfielder towards his latter years with us. Todays game simply does not breed players like him. Has to be one of the best transfers we have ever made. RIP

Very sad news.
I started watching Burnley in the early 70's so was privileged to be a supporter when he played. He really was a great player for Burnley and as others have said, a true Clarets legend.
Also a very nice, friendly and unassuming man. 30 years ago I used to play tennis in Queens Park and Peter would often be there. He would always nod and say hello from then on even though we didn't know each other. Big star for Burnley but very down to earth.

Re: Peter Noble
I've two stories where I crossed paths with Peter.
One was as a 9 year old me,mum and dad went to Magaluf. We bumped into Peter in a bar and got talking. Realising we were all Burnley fans Peter invited us back to meet a couple of his mates. It turned out that his mates were the entire Burnley team on their post season jaunt (sans Billy Hamilton who was otherwise engaged in another part of the resort!).A great team and many of who are still hero's to me For some reason Derek Scott took me under his wing. A great night that left a lasting impression on a young Wellernut.
2nd story.
When Peter used to have his stall in the market hall I would inevitably by most of my gear from him (being an independent retailer he had some quite rare and different stuff on offer,The likes of Hummel,Diadorra m,Ellesse and of course the Burnley gear.
I went in one Saturday morning and said to Peter do you realise you are a Trivial Pursuit question? Peter had no idea and at first thought I was taking the Micheal.
I said leave it with me.
The triv card was the orange sports and leisure which read "who holds the world record for scoring 28 consecutive penalties, answer Peter Noble.
I put the card in a deep glass frame for him ,the type where you could see both front and back of the card.
It sat in the market hall shop until the day it unfortunately closed.
Great fella and as I said earlier im genuinely gutted.
RIP Peter ,or Uwe. A great lovely fella and a true Burnley legend x

Came as something of a shock to hear of Peter Noble's passing yesterday evening. It's difficult to add anything new to what's already been posted. Probably Burnley's best ever pound for pound signing. An absolute astute piece of work by Jimmy Adamson. Bought as an attacking midfield player or striker, he ended up becoming a great utility player for us. One of our greatest players and an even greater Human Being. Peter Noble, your memory will live on, God Bless and RIP.
