Underrated, a far better player than we saw, could have been used like Ings and been far more successful, like Wallace I think he will blossom when the Dyche shackles are removed.

Very sorry to see him go. A questionable decision given age, fitness, contribution and replacement cost. That pass at Palace was sublime. Sealed the 3 points and premier league status. We move on and I just hope we can find better.

In football parlance 'gutted' by his departure. I've been saying for the last few years he is/was our most important outfield player and will be hard to replace. My only surprise being its Sheff Wednesday and not a club in the Prem.

Just watched his first interview and he didn't mention Burnley and seemed very happy and keen to get going at Sheff Wed. I thought he was really happy here? Burnley offered him a year deal with an extension option and he turned it down for a 2 year deal with them? Something doesn't add up?
Good Luck George

Guaranteed two years with Wednesday so more security. Although he's been a regular in the first team, maybe he thought that wouldn't be the case next season. It was similar with David Jones a year ago.SussexDon1inIreland wrote:Just watched his first interview and he didn't mention Burnley and seemed very happy and keen to get going at Sheff Wed. Biggest shock for me was finding out he wasn't born with his long hair.

Thank you George.
You will be missed beyond everyone. Your eternal, never say die approach inspires the rest.
My thanks and best wishes. Very sad to lose you.

Cheers bodge.
Think it's the right move personally. He'll do well for Wednesday and he does go with my best wishes. His energy will no doubt be very difficult to replace but I'm confident we will, with some added flair.

Re: ARTICLE: Boyd joins the Hillsborough ex-Clarets
Very disappointed to see George leave the club as his time at Burnley co-incided with a promotion and Premier league survival. He seemed to be a perfect fit for a 'Dyche' team with his work rate which is essential in Premier League when we will often not be in possession. Even as a sub to come on and close things down I would have liked him to stay. Our "team / group" ethic has helped Burnley to achieve recent success and the loss of George may diminish this aspect. Lets hope that Brady, Westwood and Hendrick with a Dyche pre-season will help to fill the void. Good luck to George and thanks for the service he has given to BFC.

Burnley "all-time" Premier League Appearances
1 - Tom Heaton 73 games
2 - George Boyd 71 games
3 - Scott Arfield 68 games
4 - Ben Mee 67 games
5 - Ashley Barnes 63 games
Boydy will not be easy to replace. It's easy to say he didn't contribute enough as an attacking force but he was a very important part of Sean's framework as the stats show. He played 71 out of 76 PL games. Says it all.

Re: ARTICLE: Boyd joins the Hillsborough ex-Clarets
I think ultimately it was Georges decision not Dyches. The offer of one year with the option of a second was the best he could have hoped for really. That said, really sad to see him leave, an absolute 100% er who did exactly what Dyche told him to do and provided some absolute moments of joy over the last few years.
Good luck to him at Wednesday.

People need to realise he fulfilled a purpose admirably and he did. That said. We need to push on and have no room for sentimentality.

Re: ARTICLE: Boyd joins the Hillsborough ex-Clarets
He was the Buzz Aldrin to Sean Dyche`s Neil Armstrong. VERY much doubt our moon landing under Dyche, 2nd time round, would have been possible without Boyd. He had moments for GOOD stretches of games where he did, TO THE NAKED EYE, the square root of nothing and I for one was critical. At crucial moments however he invariably `turned up` and gave some truly braveheart moments. I`m VERY SURPRISED Dyche has `allowed him to leave`. Does this signify the dawning of a new day where framework isn`t THE staple diet? Here`s hoping!
All in all, a superb player for us and sad he is leaving.

It's even better than that - it's 71 out of 73. We'd played three games before signing him in 2014.jlup1980 wrote: He played 71 out of 76 PL games. Says it all.
