No, never have been.
Living -as I see it- like a king in the south of France.
I'm sure that real kings don't share one bedroom apartments but enjoy a fantastic social circle, meet tonnes of nice young ladies, eat what I want (the food is fantastic here), drink what I want (the wine is amazing, the beer I get at cost price) and am nearly as happy as I've ever been in life.
The work is physically tiring but I love it to bits. I wouldn't put so much effort into it if I didn't LOVE it. I suppose you can look at my job in many different ways.
For example you could say it's a simple job that doesn't engage higher thinking or much brain power ... OR ... you could think long and hard about how to improve bar layout, marketing, how the pub environment impacts upon the whole "experience" of going out for a simple pint.
You could say it's a low-skilled manual service sector job .... OR ... you could say it's an easy an sociable way to earn a crust that enables you to spend your work hours chatting with locals and having a pleasant time.
You could say it's "glass collecting" ... OR ... you could say I'm managing a successful business with a turnover of XX million euro and doing a fine job at it thank you very much.
I love my job and I hope you enjoy your work too,
