Missing my point slightly mate. We had a fabulous season last season by our standards admittedly but what about when our standards and expectations start to rise? For us the PL is still a novelty, still new and we are enjoying it, but suppose we become 'established', would we still be content with 7th? And then supposing we want more but at the moment the way things are 'more' won't be achievable in terms of the league? What then bud? All I am saying really is yes, the PL is good to be in and long may it continue, but our chances of actually winning anything don't lie there, they lie in other competitions.Juan Tanamera wrote:To be fair Ian, finishing 7th was hardly just surviving by any stretch of the imagination.

Alright for some when you can throw money on signings and wages, like it's going out of fashion.claretandy wrote:A bit more exciting for Bournemouth ......

Re: Most boring transfer window ever
Our squad can beat most except the Gooners but has shown over the years that it can lose to most too. And that's football
Re: Most boring transfer window ever
Finishing 7th and qualifying for Europe may not count as a trophy but bloody hell, it’s not half bad.
We will never win the europa league, nor the premier league but could potentially win the league cup of FA cup of luck was on our side.
I’d be pleased with a run in Europe and survival. Increased focus on either of the domestic cups can wait for a season now.

We could do the same, yearly income from PL money is insane and allows sides to splash out, we made a profit in last years transfer windows on fees.DustyBawls wrote:Alright for some when you can throw money on signings and wages, like it's going out of fashion.

Re: Most boring transfer window ever
I talked to that blokes dog and he said we have found it "woof" going in this window, because we where "barking mad" to expect any transfer negotiations with WBA to be quick, easy and cheap.Bin Ont Turf wrote:I've heard from a chap who walks his dog near to Gawthorpe (a park in Sutton Coldfield) that he's been hearing Dyche shouting.... "get me Rodriguez, get me Rodriguez".
It turns out that it's not Jay he wants, but James. Dyche demands that they get Colombian Rodders by the Aberdeen game.
If the board don't get him, then Dyche is leaving to become a worm farmer on the Holy Island of Lindisfarne.
He also said that we appear to "stay" with the same small pool of targets window after window and that could see us "rolling over" and paying excessive prices for bench players towards the end of the window.
In terms of recent developments he wasn't enamoured to hear that we are supposedly "sniffing the crotch" of Clucas for £12m because he has been fairly "poo" in his previous two attempts to prove he is a premier league player. Notching up match playing credits in under performing teams and showing you have what it takes are two different things.
He thinks we should give the chance to step up to some of the other "bull dogs" in the Championship or bring in a couple of good "younger and hungrier pups" who are almost at the standard we need.
Fortunately he wasn't "howling" mad at the way things are going, because we have managed to keep together a quality squad who have shown they can get the job done. A couple of new additions to round out our squad depth in CD, LW and AM would get his "tail wagging", but it might not result in an immediate end of the world scenario if it doesn't happen.

Claret Tony,
Suggesting people should get out more is dismissive and as runner of the website is tantamount to suggesting your 'traffic' or 'custom' go elsewhere.
That in itself is the very height of unproffesionalism and very much indicative of some of the absolute trolls you allow to lurk unchecked and does nothing for the website.
Here was me thinking this website was meant to be about football for football fans, which has clearly lost its way amongst all the part-time politicians we have have claiming to have a modicum of interest in our club.
God forbid anyone should want to discuss the transfer window.
How very dare they.

Yes we could, we will likely do the same in this window, I think we'll spend £40M+DustyBawls wrote:We couldn't do the same.

I wasn't aware that CT was getting paid. If he is, it's not enough to give me or you the right to tell him how to run the site.Notsosuperstevedavis wrote:Claret Tony,

CT is on £30k per week but he's out of contract at the end of this season and currently refusing to sign a new deal.

Folks more interested in shopping than football. Shop-till-yer-drop City etc. It might play in Burnley's favour. All the big clubs might cancel each other out next season, meanwhile quietly Burnley stroll to the title. Nice thought, anyway...

I could work in a charity shop for free and I'd still be expected with a level of professionalism.
I merely pointed out a percieved behavioural issue.
But of course, the know-it-alls on this site, will always know better than us mere mortals.

Re: Most boring transfer window ever
I really want us to sign Danny Wellbeck, I think he’d be absolutely perfect in our system.
Re: Most boring transfer window ever
My real concern about this and previous windows is that our "Recruitment Team" don't appear to be capable of finding any "new" talent either at home or abroad
Defour apart, I don't think we have brought anybody in over recent years that SD would not have already known plenty about through his own observations (he may have even known about Defour anyway - he certainly went to watch him before the transfer was completed)
To me, a recruitment dept are there to find the potential talent, and let the manager concentrate on working with his current squad
Within that dept I would hope we are likely have a fair number of scouts working in this country and overseas watching games and players (covering a far wider area than a manager can, unlike in years gone by when the manager and his personal team went to watch other games)
Just look at our supposed targets this summer
Dawson/Jay Rod - both well known to the manager way back and don't forget that both have fairly recently turned us down because WBA were able to offer them higher wages than us at the time we showed interest in signing them. I would guess that it was only the fact that WBA got relegated last sesaon that our interest returned this summer ( had they stayed up I doubt we would have even put bids in)
Clucas was again a previous target who chose Swansea (prob also for better wages plus Swansea were prepared to pay more) and surprise, they have also been relegated
At the other end of the scale we have brought in numerous youngsters only to see them move on a couple of years or so later. Agyei and O'Neill have been with us a number of years but never looked like being serious contenders for 1st team duty unless because of injuries to others
SD, quite rightly will have the final say, and I'll guess he was the one who brought up the names of Dawson, Jay Rod and Clucas in the first place this summer which begs the question what are the recruitment team actually doing themselves

We are obviously playing the old waiting game. Waiting for the right cards to fall, and waiting till the crazy season is over and clubs start getting anxious.
20 million for Dawson at the mo? - crazy money.
It’s a risky strategy, but there are a lot more clubs more desperate than us.

Re: Most boring transfer window ever
I really hope this one goes through because £32m for a centre mid who plays for Levante is crazy. They're a really average La Liga side who finished 15th last season. Don't get me wrong, he looks pretty decent, but I'm always wary when clubs pay big bucks for players off the back of a good World Cup / European Championship. Levante paid £600k for him two years ago. That says it all. Madness, utter madness! If he'd been consistently good for the past couple of years he'd be in demand already.claretandy wrote:A bit more exciting for Bournemouth ......

Re: Most boring transfer window ever
The fact we haven't gone "all-in" for Dawson tells me everything I need to know about Ben Mee's future. If we knew Mee wasn't signing a new deal then I assume we'd be working tirelessly to get a replacement through the door ASAP. As it is everything seems quite relaxed, so I'm going to stay relaxed. Sean knows what he's doing.Ric_C wrote:We are obviously playing the old waiting game. Waiting for the right cards to fall, and waiting till the crazy season is over and clubs start getting anxious.

As a footnote, if Alfie Mawson is available for £20m I'd prefer to go for him than Craig Dawson!!
Re: Most boring transfer window ever
Firstly, we haven't sold anyone. It's not that long ago that we had to see our best player every summer to balance the books.
It's a unique scenario: a World Cup in the same close season as the first pre-season deadline day.
TBH if I read that Ben had signed a new contract that would be more important than a signing or two.
I'm convinced we will make signings.

Re: Most boring transfer window ever
The problem is we only deal in double signings and it's hard to find two players we want at the same club. Looks like we've given up on JayRod and Dawson and changed our sites to Clucas and Mawson
