Re: One club players
Bob Taylor, was on the verge of the first team squad and remained part of the squad through the rise of the fifties and sixties, spending his entire professional career at the club. His real name was John Taylor, but we already had a John Taylor at the club, he (like many) preferred to be called Jack, but we also had a Jack Taylor... so for his entire career he was on record as Bob Taylor, because we didn’t have a ‘Bob’ on the books. Despite several offers from other clubs he only wanted to play for Burnley. He was a regular patient of mine when I worked in optics... and never left without a long chat. He lived at the time in Whaley (early 2000’s).Royboyclaret wrote:Bob Taylor ?
Players like Jack deserve to remembered and respected too. Even more one club men than the stars.

More than happy for Bob Taylor to be remembered but for the life of me I don't remember any Bob Taylor being in and around the first team squad in the '50's and '60's (and I saw plenty of Reserve team football also during that time).elwaclaret wrote:Bob Taylor, was on the verge of the first team squad and remained part of the squad through the rise of the fifties and sixties, spending his entire professional career at the club. Same comment also applies to John Taylor and Jack Taylor. We did have a Fred Taylor that left the club for New Brighton in 1948 after 12 years at Turf Moor.

Re: One club players
Bob is listed in some the A-z’s of the 1990-2000’s in fact I think I remember getting him to sign one. It’s not Fred as Fred died in New Brighton prior to me getting to know Jack. May be in error with the name but think not. Need CT on this one I remember he knew the name at the time I first met him and mentioned it on CM. Problem I have I called him jack and filled in his forms with John lol.Royboyclaret wrote:More than happy for Bob Taylor to be remembered but for the life of me I don't remember any Bob Taylor being in and around the first team squad in the '50's and '60's (and I saw plenty of Reserve team football also during that time).

Re: One club players
Actually now the cogs are turning I think it was Fred, but the players called him Bob as there was another John and Jack and Fred in the squad when he arrived. I vaguely remember him telling me once that the club records always show him as deceased.... probably is now, bless him.

Re: One club players
Thee was a Fred Taylor who made one appearance in post war football against West Brom in September 1946 as well as one of the FA Cup games in the previous season. He had, however, played 48 league games and scored seven goals in pre-war football.elwaclaret wrote:Actually now the cogs are turning I think it was Fred, but the players called him Bob as there was another John and Jack and Fred in the squad when he arrived. He died in 1983 when elwaclaret would have been around 12.

Re: One club players
That’s it Tony he didn’t die in New Brighton, though he was very seriously ill. He recovered and returned to Whaley where I met him several times when I dispensed his glasses. Last time I saw him was mid 2000’s. He and his lovely wife were quite frail by then so strongly suspect he is finally no longer laughing that the club records had him as deceased.ClaretTony wrote:Thee was a Fred Taylor who made one appearance in post war football against West Brom in September 1946 as well as one of the FA Cup games in the previous season.
