I was suggesting that they don't produce many goals, rather than reach the intended recipient.
I'm sure we all realise it's one of the crudest attacking moves in football, which is probably why the top sides don't use it.
Absolutely. They employ footballers to whip balls into the box, having had it explained to them by the coaching staff.

On a pretty poor central defence like United's, it could well come in handy but, again, not to be overdone.

If you’re going to use the long throw mix it up. Predictability is our issue, a long throw brings variety but it needs to be used strategically.

I thought it was bloody awful and wasted countless opportunities in the final third. Just floated aimlessly into ‘areas’ (not entirely dissimilar to our tactics generally). Cathcart in particular must have been loving it. If it’s ineffective in windy conditions, stop utilising it in windy conditions. It just serves to make our play even more one dimensional.

When I first heard about Roberts long throw I was expecting something a little more “direct” thrown with a low trajectory however it appears it’s more of a “high and long” which gives the defending team more time to react.

Like others have said it could be effective, but needs to be used at the right time not every time - otherwise it’s going to end up like a Robbie Brady free kick ever since his goal against Chelsea

Missed the part where I said top sides employ the services of a specialist throw in coach didn't you?

Goals can be scored from throw-ins as a result of following up on the knock down, or directly from it.

We just need to work on it more for it to start being effective and we need to be quicker at taking them.

Not for me, this.

We got nothing from any of these and would have been far better doing the throw and laying off to Westwood, McNeil or whoever to swing an actual cross (with pace) in. We have a 6’6 lad in the box and he had absolutely NO crosses of note to attack all game.
McNeil hasn't put a cross in for ages.
The long throw is dycheball at ots best, it looks our only bit of creative play that gets us in the box!

If anyone has the ear of anyone at the club (a few on here seem to at least act like they do) please will they point out that every throw he takes is a foul throw cos his foot is on the pitch. I can just see us scoring and having it VAR’d off us for a foul throw

You mean he has all of either of his feet past the line, or just part? The latter is absolutely fine.

It is just part. I thought you had to have no part of your foot on the pitch. Im wrong and I’ve learnt something there

I think they changed the ruling a while ago. As long as part of your foot is on the line then it's ok.

Speaking of foul throws...Dalot must have done about 10 last night
