Re: Taylor
That was Taylor's return from injury after a 5 week injury lay off. It isn't exactly unusual to bring a player back via a game on the bench.
Other than that, he's started every game since Forest (which was September, not August).
Re: Taylor
5 weeks isn't that long and it was a shoulder injury so I imagine he'd maintained good fitness throughout. Delcroix has shown to be a poor left back at this level (he looks like he could be a good at centre back) as has Vitinho, so these decisions to keep changing Taylor show what he thinks of him to me. Also we haven't offered him a new contract have we?claretspice wrote: ↑Sun Mar 31, 2024 9:21 pmThat was Taylor's return from injury after a 5 week injury lay off. I think he's been a little disrespectful towards Taylor to be honest. He clearly doesn't rate him and is playing him out of pure necessity as far as I can see. I'd be surprised if Taylor starts at left back again next season, in fact I'd be surprised to see him at the club.

Re: Taylor
He hasn't kept changing him. He's named him on the bench twice since the fourth game of the season, on both occasions likely for medical/fitness reasons given there are medical explanations in public. We're getting into the realms of conspiracy theories.Goliath wrote: ↑Sun Mar 31, 2024 9:28 pm5 weeks isn't that long and it was a shoulder injury so I imagine he'd maintained good fitness throughout. As for next season - you could be right but I've no idea what discussions representatives have had behind the scenes. If you do have knowledge of those discussions, fair enough but my guess is they're confidential.
Re: Taylor
Well that 4 games not being in the squad alongside the full previous season not playing him at left back gave a pretty good indication, along with twice not playing him for an inferior player during this season. If we put 2+2 together the answer seems to be quite clear.claretspice wrote: ↑Sun Mar 31, 2024 9:36 pmHe hasn't kept changing him. In terms of contract I think I saw an interview with Taylor saying nothing had been discussed as of yet but realistically if we'd been keen for him to stay I think he'd have been signed up about 12 months ago.

A full season as 2nd choice behind Maatsen? Perfectly understandable really.

Charlie Taylor - proper defender, when you need proper defenders.
The best

Re: Taylor
Taylor was never fancied by Mr Kompany in The Championship and was completely ignored for the Left Back position. It is as if he only plays him there begrudgingly. Incredulous he was dropped this week and at the expense of accommodating the ineffective Amdouni. So only by circumstance was our left side of defense rectified vs Chelsea.
No slight on Vitinho. I am a fan of him, but not at Left Back ahead of Charlie Taylor

Was he 2nd choice at left back? I remember Vitinho filling in there numerous timesboatshed bill wrote: ↑Sun Mar 31, 2024 9:58 pmA full season as 2nd choice behind Maatsen? Perfectly understandable really.

Re: Taylor
Yes but we are talking about how he's viewed as a left back. I very much doubt the cb experiment will be revisited when we have so many other options thereboatshed bill wrote: ↑Sun Mar 31, 2024 11:03 pmBut didn't Taylor play CB often? Definitely not rated as Maatsen was at LB.
