A fabulous footballer but sadly too good for us and the recruitment team should have made him number 1 priority over disappointments like Trafford , tresor , Amdouni

Re: Nathan Tella
You could use that extra £2mil add it to the £15mil for the rumoured/reported £15mil tresor obligation throw in a extra mil you have adam Wharton who's already looking double more than palace shelled out. It's insane recruitment.

Re: Nathan Tella
But that's missing the point completely. Nobody knew/knows the impact a player might have. He was very much to the fore of a group of 'new faces' that lifted( literally and metaphorically) the whole club last season to levels not witnessed for a long time. Then, along with one or two others, seemingly dismissed and replaced by wholly inadequate individuals whose careers have not progressed nor been enhanced throughout this football season.

Re: Nathan Tella
For those that missed it his 3 starts this season for Saints were 2W 1D 0L. 1 goal, 1 assist, 1 yellow.
For the earlier poster that said he is bit part at Bayer, he is behind Jeremy Frimpong, who is wanted all over Europe. No shame in that and if he goes Nathan starts.
Congrats to him for a wonderful move and fabulous memories.

Re: Nathan Tella
Many do of course, but some do not, which pollutes many discussions on social media.
The Premier League is tougher than any league in the world, the defenders are giants, no guarantee Tella or indeed Maatsen would have done any better than Amdouni, Brun Larsen, Taylor etc. certainly Maatsen did nothing for Chelsea Sept-Dec. Personally I think they have all had good moments in their seasons, including most of our players.

Did anyone see how he did at West Ham tonight? Came off at half time, but I've been watching the scousers.

Re: Nathan Tella
Thought he did alright myself. Playing down the middle. Had at least one shot well saved by Fabianski. I reckon he was probably sacrificed for a tactical switch rather than not playing well.

Uploaded last night to YouTube. A really interesting insight into Nathan’s career so far, and a great section on his time at Burnley around the 47 minute mark. Talks about the season as a whole winning the league, his connection with the fans and how he thought he was coming back here for good. Top lad

Re: Nathan Tella
A great signing for us and a massive blunder not matching Saints asking price. However you cut it totally unacceptable.

If we get up this season, I am sure we will see him again in a Burnley shirt.
Re: Nathan Tella
Even 12 months on it's difficult to understand what Pace and co. were thinking last summer. Nathan was a gem, on and off the ball. He was unplayable some weeks, and even when he had a quiet day he was still a nuisance off the ball, pushing teams back with his willingness to press high up the pitch.
Not signing him was a huge mistake for us and it set the wrong tone before the season even kicked off last August, but ultimately it was the right thing for him. I hope he goes from strength to strength.

Compared to THB and Maatsen he was by far the most important one to sign
Re: Nathan Tella
It seems sign a lot of 'maybe's' was more important than 1 or 2 'very much are'.
Makes me wonder if there is a payout on transfers!

Re: Nathan Tella
I wonder why Southampton didn't keep him? Smashing player lightening fast over thos first 5 yards - oops metres.

Would have preferred we had signed him and non of Trafford, Tresor, and Ramsey and kept the change. Last season and the transfer window before it were a major f**k up.

Watch Tella drift from club to club (making good money) but never really settling.

Re: Nathan Tella
I’m sure he would settle for a title most seasons!
Re: Nathan Tella
The amount of goals that J Rod, Tella and Benson scored between them in the Promotion season and the amount of minutes they were on the field for us last year was incredible. I know it’s a league higher and a much higher standard but to think new signings would come in and replace all 3 was plain stupid. J Rod I get, but all 3.

Re: Nathan Tella
No club can sign players with a 100% success rate. It is what it is. And I still think Tresor can come good (if he turns up). He'll be better in an advanced forward position.

Re: Nathan Tella
He's literally just done an interview talking about his time here and how things panned out and that he thought he'd be staying with us
It would be stranger for people not to discuss it on, erm, a Burnley message board than to discuss it as is happening
Even without the "To be honest I thought I was going back to Burnley" it is interesting to watch and discuss his views on how the season went etc and how he talks about the club and the fans etc
Should he MOVE ON because he signed for someone else and not talk about it? Can we not talk about any former players?

Or we didn't meet the asking price in our multiple initial bids throughout the summer as was widely reported at the time and then Leverkusen came in later with an offer that did meet the valuation...Burnley Ace wrote: ↑Tue Jul 23, 2024 8:02 pmThat’s just fluff, if he wanted to come back to Burnley then he would have, he got a better option and took it.
Seemed to me like we were hoping they would budge as the window grew closer but that was disrupted by Leverkusen coming in - probably explains Tresor timings also
If we'd have moved fast and matched the valuation like with Beyer then I think it's pretty clear he would have come

Just because people are highlighting mistakes made & discussing his time here doesn't mean they haven't moved on. I'm pretty sure people are aware he & others have moved on it doesn't stop discussions. It's a regular theme on here to discuss ex players why should Nathan be any different.
