You have to do anything and everything to stay up the first season. I still think if with yhe money he spent Kompany had of bought some seasoned pros and mixed up his tactics we'd have stayed up. I think of we go up Parker is more likely to keep us up as he can be more pragmatic.

Big difference between Parker and Kompany is that Parker likes a few experienced professionals, Kompany's downfall was spending a fortune on inexperienced players. Only Redmond and Berge had some PL experience.

Dyche had the right idea when we went up with him, make us hard to beat and then change our style once we had a foot in the door

A lot of clubs feel obliged to play the pretty stuff from the off despite not having the right players for it
And it could be said we also had some better players than either Bournemouth, Brighton & Brentford.

Have those three got a keeper better than Pope?
Have those three got a centre half better than Tarkowski?
Have those three got a striker better than Wood?

You used to need in or around 40 points to survive, you don't even need 30 now. If you think the gap isn't growing then look at the facts.
Hardly ever 40 points is or was needed. Last season was low at 27. Years before 35, 36, 29, 35, 35, 34, 35, 38, 36, 34, 37, 37, 40, 31, 35, 37, 39, 35, 34, 34, 43, 37, 35. That’s working backwards to 2000/01.

I'm pretty sure trossard & Toney were about then.

The gulf may well get bigger with the current push to do away with parachute payments. The only promoted teams able to compete if that happens will be those with owners with very deep pockets.

I suspect next season Leeds will be one of those with very deep pockets.

It's not looking at the top 6, the gap between the relegated teams and the mid table is huge in terms of squad depth and ability. Forest are the example people will cite as how a club can turn it round. However, it's very difficult - the pundits who criticise a club for not breaking the babk to stay up would presumably be those criticising the club management if thry go down with a huge financial burden.

I say presumably as most pundits aren't aware of the Championship.
