If we go up and I had to put a bet on it I think Esteve and Trafford go and Egan-Riley signs a new deal because he wouldn't be guaranteed a start at the likes of West Ham. Esteve would go straight in to the starting line up due to the huge fee.

My mistake then. I was actually remembering Sunderland as after Rovers but that wasn’t the case. And also remembered Rovers as his first appearance actually - when he came on a slipped vs Rovers and got pelters - which also isn’t true. Maybe it was Wolves I’m thinking of where he also got some stick.

In any event, early doors there were a lot on here that were forthcoming with criticism and writing him off (not me, I might add) and nobody could’ve predicted his fantastic rise this season at that point. He’s done superbly, been a credit to himself, but I don’t think we can blame the club over the contract situation either.

If you look down this thread he was getting pelters after his Rovers sub appearance. Some quite laughable things said on it in hindsight!

We might as well accept relegation on day 1 if we sell two key players. Would be completely mind blowing stuff.

That's the business model. Esteve wouldn't be far off his peak value. If he had a bad season like Beyer did he goes from a 40 million pound player to 10 and then might refuse to play in the Champ if we went down.

Absolutely no substance in this what so ever so please treat it with massive scepticism should it eventually ( hopefully) be bollards but I was told yesterday by some random old boy who noticed I had my Burnley top on at a grass roots league game in Eaton Socon that Esteve was as near as damned it a done deal to Everton for £35m at the end of the season. Apparently along with an un named central defender from WBA to replace Branthwaite.

Again don't shoot the messenger I'm hoping it's complete tosh!!.
Nothing in life as a “done deal”. Why would Pace agree to any such deal when there is likely to be a number of clubs after his signature. That’s not a dig at you louieollie but rather the ‘random old boy” who is talking crap.

The ‘business model’ is to stay in the Prem first. Any player can have a bad season, but there would probably be someone else who had a good season (using your Beyer example).

I genuinely didn't think we'd ever see him in a Burnley shirt ever again. It's one of the worst substitute cameos I've ever seen.
The recovery from that has been incredible.

It's great management as well. I think a lot of managers would have binned him at that point as well. To give another chance to a player that had shown nothing really in terms of being good enough was a real show of faith and was clearly exactly what he needed.

Moyes drove in front of us on the way into Pride Park last night. No doubt watching Esteve and maybe a couple of other players (Edwards, CJ)

They’ve been to several games now. They’re obviously very, very interested. I think that means they expect to lose Branthwaite and are lining up Esteve. If they are, they’ll need to be prepared to part with a big chunk of what they get for Branthwaite.

We'd be able to demand a fortune from Eveton knowing in the scenario of them just selling Branthwaite. If they get 70 mill for him we should be demanding minimum 40 mill (if promoted)
