Re: Andy Wharton
I was at that Sunday Millwall game which proved to be his last. He did have a mare but he stuck at it and he wasn’t the only one to have a mare that day!

And having made the tedious journey that day I managed to miss Andy's winner owing to being in the toilets!Culmclaret wrote: ↑Fri Apr 04, 2025 7:45 am81/82 my favourite season. So much talent in that side. Andy wasn’t the most talented but my god he made up for it with spirit and tenacity. That team had a never say die mentality and Andy embodied that. He scored the goal that sparked us into life after losing 6 of the first eight games. Brian Miller was in hospital with appendicitis and no one gave us any hope away at Portsmouth. He lit up a dismally wet aftenoon with a swivelled half volley from the edge of the area to give us a 2-1 win ‘Andy, Andy Wharton’ RIP

Re: Andy Wharton
It was a really sweet finish; beautifully timed. From what I can remember it was just outside the box. Andy leapt into the arms of one of his team mates (Dobo?) such was his joy.

Re: Andy Wharton
Shocked and saddened to see this news. Andy was an inspiration to me as a young footballer; it was good watching someone having made it from Fearns Comprehensive School. The school had precious little else to recommend it. I remember well the sports masters telling me of Andy’s complete dedication to making it; staying back for extra training after classes. He was a rough diamond by the sounds of it but he always came across as shy when our paths crossed when he visited his auntie on Kirk View (I was school pals with his cousin) and he was embarrassed he had a little fan. RIP

Re: Andy Wharton
My real full time home start the 81/82 season, although had been to Easter games for a good few years. A wonderful time.
Thank you Andy Wharton
