Like I said at the start of the thread. Hannibal offers nothing in the number 10

Not going to be too hard on Anthony , he created the much needed equaliser.
In answer to an earlier question we learned than Hannibal is not good enough for a starting place

Harsh to call Anthony out when he was quite easily our biggest threat all night. Absolute sitter, unquestionably - they happen.

Parker still learning his best 11 and more closer tonight to knowing
What is apparent is that Pires cannot defend,Agyei is not yet ready and Laurent is too good to omit . Hopefully Sarmiento and Trevor will be fit soon and Koleosho can become an impact sub

Elwa that’s what he should do but he ain’t going to do that.

I just hope that Parker has learnt a ******* lesson from that tonight and we line up in an attacking and direct 442 on Saturday.
I can't watch his turgid shite again after those first 70 minutes tonight.

I think the lesson is the game lasts 90 minutes, you can't expect to turn up for only 20 of them and hope to get a win.
We play better, and have more control, when we play on the front foot. The patient slow build up doesn't work for us, it never has.

Re: Match Thread - Hull v Burnley 7.45pm KO
Play with 2 strikers . Looked a far better team
Re: Match Thread - Hull v Burnley 7.45pm KO
Before we played Sheff Weds and Hull I said I would be happy with 4 points and that is what we have. Obviously gutted we didn’t nick it at the end but until Flemming scored I would settle for a point.
We didn’t play our best but have not lost.
Hopefully on Saturday we will up the tempo and get an early goal and kick on.

Re: Match Thread - Hull v Burnley 7.45pm KO
Every time SP subs him he has to have a chat, which to me suggests a weak character. Hannibal puts on this macho, hard-tackling player but is soft as **** inside and doubts himself. Certainly plays like that, plays within himself and doesn't have much self-confidence. Done zilch so far, can't recall one important contribution, needs dropping. Clearly, SP is playing him to give him some belief & confidence, and build him up, but he just ain't that good is the harsh reality!
Re: Match Thread - Hull v Burnley 7.45pm KO
I was whinging like everyone else in the first half. We've rectified the problem and come away with a creditable draw.
We now know we're not going to be playing swashbuckling football like 2 seasons ago, partly because all our attackers are injured and partly because SP isn't VK.
So take it for what it is and Give credit where credit is due

Cullen no longer our most important midfielder, Laurent is, he has to start on Saturday, I would even go with Laurent and brownhill in a 2 with Flemming in the 10 with either hountonji or Jay Rod in the 9.
Also Ageyi showed so much more composure than Koleosho

As a positive I thought Agyei/Boateng had a good debut. Looked a more rounded footballer than Koleosho does. I'd keep him in the match day squad. Get him fighting for a starting place.

Not sure yet, Casper. I think he’s still tinkering for now. The changes he’s making are paying off… just needs to take his foot off the brake sooner. I still think in a few weeks we’ll start pushing on a bit more.Guller Bull wrote: ↑Wed Oct 23, 2024 9:49 pmElwa that’s what he should do but he ain’t going to do that.

Re: Match Thread - Hull v Burnley 7.45pm KO
Just a very strange signing, I expected to him to play as a sitting midfielder.
This advanced midfield role he’s like a fish out of water.
Should be knowhere near our starting eleven based on form this season. He’s truly been ineffective all season.
Re: Match Thread - Hull v Burnley 7.45pm KO
Where's all this ability coming from regarding Hannibal? I don't see it: crap touch, passing is standard, doesn't take up intelligent positions, can't take the ball on the turn, never shoots, has he driven forward and got past a man in all these games? driven into the box... picks up bookings and makes a tackle, wow! Anyone could do that!
Re: Match Thread - Hull v Burnley 7.45pm KO
Happy with the point in the end but overall not particularly pleased with the performance for 60 minutes of that game. I’m not sure whether it’s personnel (Hannibal and Luca so incredibly wasteful and sloppy) or tactics. It’s probably a bit of both. For example we immediately look better with Flemming alongside a main striker. I’d start Hountondji with him on Saturday.
Re: Match Thread - Hull v Burnley 7.45pm KO
Hannibal doesn't have to be a conundrum. He is ultimately going to be JB's replacement when he leaves.
This season, Neither he or Laurent are going to be getting in ahead of JB, JC or any of our myriad attacking midfielders once everyone is back.

Re: Match Thread - Hull v Burnley 7.45pm KO
i think some people need to get real about where Burnley is as a football club.
IMO we've been downgrading squad quality since our European adventure. The VK promotion was an upturn based largely on the loan system.

Agree with the comments above. I'm really wanting it to click for Hannibal but it hasn't yet. Play him deeper or pop him on the bench for a few games. Laurent makes things happen and should start on Saturday. Think I agree that we could afford to drop Cullen in favour of playing an attack minded player too.

Re: Match Thread - Hull v Burnley 7.45pm KO
What have we learned?
A) Never change a winning team.
B) One cross, one goal. We had so many wonderful crossing opportunities and refused to put it in.
C) Any away point is a good point in this division.
D) Koleosho needs a rest. He just isn’t cutting it.
E) Laurent must start. He lifts everybody around him.
I’m seriously ****** off with modern football. All this passing to get the stats up is boring me.

Brilliant. At least Brownhill scores! Hannibal IS. NOT. AN. ATTACKING. MIDFIELDER.
Re: Match Thread - Hull v Burnley 7.45pm KO
You’ve gotta put it in context, we’ve got 4 more points after 11 games than we had under Kompany!

You seem to have difficulty regulating your emotions. Go and have a brew, take a breath and ask yourself
"Was this result the absolute disaster I perceive it to be"
Don't answer now. Maybe sleep on it and let me know what you think tomorrow.

Why he started Hannibal today literally blew my mind. Hountondji and Flemming should have started. I would argue he could have even gone with the safer option of Laurent with Flemming

Re: Match Thread - Hull v Burnley 7.45pm KO
Think we need a striker and a good right winger Laurent to play deep and Brownhill has to play further up front or he’s anonymous.Had deep conversations on the board about a shortage of good wingers early on in the season and was told we had an abundance of them ,we now of have Antony and Sarmiento who drift in and out of games and Koleshoe who runs into brick walls Agyei who is no where near ready and Benson who probably wont play for month.

If we’re going to to be playing Cullen, Brownhill & Hannibal I don’t get why we don’t go Cullen & Hannibal as the 2 and Brownhill as the “10”

No conundrum for me, nowhere near the best 11, based on who’s fit the best 11 is the one that started against sheff weds

Re: Match Thread - Hull v Burnley 7.45pm KO
The only time we should set up like that is teams like Leeds away. Otherwise we control the game in such a benign way because no one's making their defenders question their positioning.
But that said, we're sat in 2nd and lost once. It would be great to see us try two up top with flemming as a 10 once though, from the start.

What is safe to say, if we start to play well - and we can, then we shouldn't have any problems in this league whatsoever. The caveat for me is how quickly Parker and the players gel, and work out the best side/way forward. Solid but as of yet, completely uninspiring.
Re: Match Thread - Hull v Burnley 7.45pm KO
Hannibal was brought in tonight for his pressing. I understand the thinking. I’ve seen 2 or 3 Hull games on Sky this season and their playing out from the back has been suicidal at times.123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Wed Oct 23, 2024 10:07 pmNo conundrum for me, nowhere near the best 11, based on who’s fit the best 11 is the one that started against sheff weds
What didn’t help Hannibal was the complete lack of effort from Koleosho to also press from the front effectively. He was consistently 5-10 yards deeper than he should’ve been.
I was actually shocked just how poor our pressing was tonight.
But there’s no denying that when we do play Hannibal in the 10 we lack creativity. Which is why it’s turning into a bit of a conundrum.

Can’t just bring in one player in for his so called press, nobody else in the team pressed like him, but having watching hull against Sunderland on Sunday, they sat back and allowed Sunderland to have the ball and had we of had Laurent and brownhill we would of been better on the ball in the first half.TsarBomba wrote: ↑Wed Oct 23, 2024 10:19 pmHannibal was brought in tonight for his pressing. I just don’t see how Hannibal fits in at all, potentially in a tight game you could play him wide right but he’s not a 10 and he’s not a sitter either

Re: Match Thread - Hull v Burnley 7.45pm KO
It's the same problem we had with McCann and Marney before Jones came in and got the best from Marney. It just isn't working with the central midfielders we have. No one really knows where they should, or shouldn't be and Hannibal and Brownhill both play in the same area and in a similar fashion.
We need more creativity and less industry.
England couldn't win anything playing Gerrard, Lampard and Scholes together. Hopefully they'll click eventually and I'm wrong because it doesn't seem like Parker wants to charge the system.

Re: Match Thread - Hull v Burnley 7.45pm KO
I don't understand what people are not getting. Did you think we were just going to go out and win every game 3 or 4 nil?
We are playing the way parker is setting up, try not to concede and nick a win.
We started without a striker FFS. Need to understand football tactics a bit more some of you.
We're doing just fine. Sure it's not pretty football, but we are not trying to play pretty football and it not working, we are playing how it's intended.
