Cornet has already scored 6 goals in 10 games and has been injured. I trust whoever scouted Cornet to bring in someone suitable (if not better).

So if Newcastle stop up at the expense of us due to CW goal or assist contributions will that still be a stitch up?
I don't really want to play in your fantasies but I'll add.
There'll be no way to tell if wood has had that impact come the end of the season. There'll be about 8 new signings rocking up at Newcastle this month.
Here's a thought for you, what if we sign a replacement, go down due to wood's goals contributions but our new younger man is bedded in for a season, gets us promoted and goes on to score ten plus in the prem following and is a better all around player than Wood? Has it been good business?
Personally, considering were as good as down, then yes.

Stop flapping about Newcastle. Us staying up/going down wont be on who Newcastle sign it will be because we can't win games - all of those so far this season have been with Wood in the team. Selling Wood won't weaken us in the slightest given his performances and the way we play with him in the team
It will, wood is going through a barren patch strikers do you only need to look at benteke as a post villa example with palace he’s not doing too bad now, it’s unlikely like for like quality wise that he can be replaced, of course I’m going to mention Newcastle if you haven’t noticed we are in the middle of relegation dogfight with them!

You have gone too early, there are some who still don't understand the Trippier release clause and it is over 6 years & 3 clubs later. You might have to give it a few year

Did you actually think wood, who has scored 3 so far, looked awful and personally I feet looked like a player who wanted to go, would have fired the goals in the back end of the season to keep us up? I think in our current spot and form that would have been a miracle but feel like this is the underlying reason people are getting upset about it.

yeah great, but none of that makes a scrap of difference if we don't win our games. We've won ONE with Wood. If we only win one in the second half of the season then Wood scoring 1 or 56 for Newcastle is irrelevant.

It’s 1 of them we’ll never know what he could have done or not done because the bloke won’t be about, he might be scoring for somebody else & another team might be retaining their PL status but what the hell does that matter I’m agreeing with you, I can’t be bothered arguing anymore you are right & I’m wrong & it's a brilliant idea selling our best striker to our closest relegation rival.

It has become clear since last night that any release clause is for a summer window only.
And now conflicting reports coming out, unless we saw the contract. I doubt we will ever know the truth. At the end of the day I think it’s good business if done this week.
Would I like him to stay, yes.
However, Newcastle fans have had some great strikers over the years.
Think they will be very underwhelmed.

They don't sound it. Sound delighted. Easily pleased obviously. However they seem to have become fixated more on it weakening us rather than him being good for them. Maybe they are trying to take the positives out of it from their side :D
Time will tell but we have a couple of weeks to still replace him and I doubt we will miss him as much as their fans think..and curiously many of ours.
Fantastic business and hopefully the start of a rebuild.

Okay I understand your point but in reality it is pointless as we have a striker who wanted to leave and a club who were prepared to match his release clause. If he wants to leave there is no point keeping him. I would also say the same for any defenders who maybe thinking the same way.
I know that Wood is going anyway. My point is that a number of posters made utterly ridiculous comments about Wood and then seemed very smug that he was going. They clearly have no idea on who would be a decent replacement that had a similar record. I repeat my challenge has not been met.

Do they have release clauses in Football Manager? I've never played Football Manager* (or similar), however, I learnt last week from another post or two that lots of people get (some of) their knowledge about the management and finances of football clubs from Football Manager.

*Yes, I'm too old. (I'm of the generation that saw Ralph Coates sold to Spurs and Martin Dobson sold to Everton). I'm sure I would have played Football Manager if computer games were around when I was younger.

we wont be looking in the PL, it's a ridiculously pointless question. Just to remind you when we signed Wood he had scored 1 (one) PL goal for Leicester. The flapping from some folks is embarrassing
You don't know where we will be looking. There are no obvious targets in the Pl that meet the criteria I set which leaves us the Championship but in todays market £25m won't get you far and would be a massive risk. I remember the hysteria when Wood was signed, everyone was drooling over themselves as what a great signing it was. Yes of course there is abroad but we will be in competition with lots of other clubs who will be offering greater wages and it is not as if Burnley look a great prospect at the moment.

Questions need to be addressed as to why we were left almost entirely reliant on Chris Wood, who top scored last season with 12 goals, with the next highest contribution from any player being 3 goals. Chris Wood has failed to fire for us this season and we find ourselves in the bottom 3 which should be no great surprise to anybody. Basically, if Chris Wood got injured or had a barren season we were screwed anyway.

Lots of talk about Dyche being upset but if he said he was happy that would just fire Wood up to get 15 goals.

A near record fee for a 30 year old (I think Bonucci went for more, and a few others). Dyche must know we couldn’t turn this down even if we had a choice. The key as others have said is the replacement. Not inconceivable this deal keeps both sides up, hard though that may be to currently imagine.

I never claimed to know but that's exactly the point I am making. All of the know-it-alls so quick to start rubbishing Wood and frothing at the mouth to get rid of him were having orgasms when we signed him. It clearly shows there complete lack of understanding about the fact that somehow we need to replace him. You still haven't met the challenge either. Where is your list of strikers who meet his record that will sign for us at £25m on £50k to £ 60k a week. The criteria is not laughable I am asking you with your glorious font of knowledge to put forward names but you haven't and you can't can you ? I am not hysterical and there are others who think the same. Never mind your lack of names speaks volumes. You can't meet the challenge because the people so glad he is going have no answers only the ability to spit out their dummies.

Can’t remember anyone having ‘orgasms’ when we signed him, quite the opposite in fact, I recall people saying he was just a copy of Sam Vokes and not good enough.

Passed his medical. Discussing personal terms
100% already had personal terms done before a medical.

Er shouldn’t that have been done a couple of months ago
Illegally unless they had asked our permission. Even at this stage I think he can only talk to foreign clubs as an OOC in Summer. They must have asked. £25m is a lot of money for a guy that will be bench warming in 8 weeks until Wilson gets hurt again.

How bad would that be if the club/clause say he can go and then it falls apart over personal terms?

Can we unsettle a few Newcastle players by offering a fortune, fail to agree personal terms, and drop them at the bus station for the journey back to St James' Park to face the dressing room?

He can’t speak to them but there’s nothing stopping someone having a conversation on his behalf that he ‘wasn’t aware about’
I’ve recently been in a position like this and there’s always ways around it ;)
