Compare and contrast

Post by NRC » Sat Aug 06, 2022 4:55 pm

With the Huddersfield game. Well, contrast really……and without seeing the stats
- slower paced
- played 15 yards further back
- passing frequency much less
- player time on the ball in possession longer. Not releasing as quickly
- TBH needs to hand the quarterback cap to Cullen
- play not going through Maatsen as much
- less play resulting in shots on goal

Compare
- when defending set pieces, by God I miss Tarks/Mee

Even so, this is going to be great!

After Huddersfield, that performance showed that there’s still a lot of work to do. Dominating possession well enough but not really utilising it well enough to create clear opportunities, yet. First half particularly, we struggled to work out how to break their bank of three in midfield.

It’s going to take a bit of time to gel and I do think we are short of a dominating centre half, winger with end product, pacy striker and probably a creative central midfielder.

Benson looked promising although I’m just hoping that he’s got a bit more in the way of end product.

I was a bit disappointed with Roberts again today. Quite wasteful in possession and still looking too frantic in possession.

I thought Luton were just as poor as Huddersfield. Lucky to get an early goal, sat back and only countered a few times. We just couldn't break them down.

I couldn’t disagree more. I thought Luton were a proper “team” with everyone knowing their roles and carrying out a game plan. Not to mention very strong physically all over the pitch.

Luton’s physicality doesn’t account for all of the contrasting points made above, in fact none of them. Is it the suggestion that none of them were of our own making?
