Good , the chances are he will be able to sort a decent championship team in the summer break.A little bit of stability could make all the difference to Sunderland.

First decent decision that Sunderland have made for a while.

You can't keep changing managers and going "Why are we so rubbish?"

If it means Sunderland are in a stronger position than Middlesbrough then I'm all for it!

I suspect the Sunderland fans will be far from happy with this morning's news

I had a long chat with my mate when we played up there recently and he wanted Moyes out, telling me he was their worst manager since Lawrie McMenemy took them to the third division. I said to him that you can't keep changing managers and you need to stabilise the club. Having said that, Moyes hardly inspires and I wouldn't want him near our club.

Stability can be a good thing for them, the squad needs an over haul and investment though.

Good decision. Most of our fans wanted dyche out after his first ten games.

Most of our fans didnt want barton back.

Nobody wouldve picked saturdays team.

Newcastle, blackburn, west ham and co all wanted rid of allerdyce.

More often than not the fans dont know better.

They're obviously hoping to follow the 'Newcastle Model'.

Agree they need stability and if he can get them back up it wont do his currently blotched CV any further damage. There was a lot of deadwood when he took over, hopefully dependent on contracts he can have a clear out. Januzai on loan anyone?

"Absolutely not. I hope we sign players who actually give a ****." I really think there is a player in there, he just needs the right Manager and the right guidance, hence our own Mr Dyche.

If he cant quite shoehorn Steven Defour in then Adnan Janazaj as no chance. TBH beddie and I may be proved wrong but Janazaj would appear on my list as one of the players SD is least likely to sign.

Stability is required, and they need to give him a chance to rebuild the club.
That said he'll have as hard a job to get them up as he had trying to keep them up.

Its a good point is that Colburn, To do what Newcastle and ourselves did you need to have a relatively pain free summer. Sunderlands relegation is more akin to that of Villa which is taking some real sorting out.

and they have a better manager than Moyes in place now.

Moyes has looked lost since he left Goodison - and probably since before then tbh. Exudes misery and has never conveyed any sense of having a plan.

CT, he is not on his own! I know quite a lot of Sunderland fans and they are far from happy at the prospect of Moyes continuing as manager.
His biggest problem was self-made because when he took over the attitude he had was that it was going to be a relegation battle and, although he has been proved correct, it is not what the fans want to hear from a new manager, particularly before the season has started.
As a result of this he has been perceived to be very negative and many have questioned his motivational qualities.

My own opinion is that this relegation has been coming for a number of seasons and there are a lot of circumstances which have led to it, including the lack of interest from the owner. This may be the time to rebuild and come back stronger, however, as someone mentioned above, this has all the hallmarks of the Villa relegation and they could well take a few seasons to get back, if they manage it at all.

Weren't Newcastle in a much better financial shape than the Black Cats though?

They seemed to make some decent signings like Ritchie from Bournemouth and Gayle who both cost a bit of money (I think) and are good players in the Championship - Ritchie also good in the Prem IMO.

I just wonder what shape they will be in come 1st September after the window has shut and their full squad is confirmed. Will they have half of their squad left? If so will they be ones who you can rely on to put in 100% every week in the Championship? Will they have any money to invest in players who are proven performers in the Championship and can get you promoted?

You will have the likes of Villa trying to push their way up alongside whoever doesn't make it through the play-offs and Boro + 1 coming down who will all be vying for those top spots. I think it's going to be very tough for the Mackems.

I fear that the prediction above about Moyes gone at Christmas could be accurate.

he is a great manager, why cant people look beyond relegation?
He was on a hiding to nothing when he took them on, Loads od sunderland fans said as much at the time, financial constraints abounded.
They have been terrible previously, endless line of hapless appointments.
Moyes will have a lot of work, they would be an embarrassment in the championship with those players. Ultimately though, if hes had a chat with the owners, then it shows he might have a bit more to work with next season. He made everton secure without any real cash for several seasons.

Moyes and Sunderland are a good fit. Time to have a clear out, reduce the wage bill. Start to build a squad over the next couple of seasons that will play the Moyes way. Create an identity and style that reflects the manager. This could turn out to be a great move for both club and manager if Moyes can rediscover the mojo he had at Everton.

I only meant with regard to retaining their manager for an attempt at promotion. Although Newcastle were throwing cash around, it was all from player sales I believe. They should get a decent penny or two from Pickford but a lot of their new players for this season I thought were very championship / league one.
