Daniel Storey Doing the 92
Daniel Storey Doing the 92
Not sure if anyone follows him but Daniel Storey is ‘doing the 92’ this season and the Turf was up last week (Game 24 if the link doesn’t take you to the exact one):

He’s following each visit up with an article, I thought it was very good read & quite accurate:

Agree with this...
''That has to subconsciously shape your emotions, right? You can want what is best for the club (which is promotion, because: money), but nobody can watch their team get picked off on the regular and remain delighted about the prospect of a repeat when the interim is filled with home wins.
Those people who say “Oh but you get to watch the best players in the world” are not to be trusted.
“There’s probably less of a desperation given the experience we had last year,” says Andrew Greaves of From The Bee Hole End, a Burnley podcast.
“The feeling is probably that (again) we’re almost too good for the Championship but the current squad would struggle in the Premier League. The gulf between the two divisions is getting wider and it’s getting more difficult to compete.
“The Championship is fun. We’ve not lost many of the games we’ve played in this division over our last few seasons in it. It’s a good feeling to be going into games without the fear of a pasting and knowing we have players who are either experienced at this level or who are developing in a much better way than they were perhaps able to last season.”

I can't be doing with him.
From the same smirking, self-satisfied, know-it-all, "I will present my opinion to you as god's gospel" school as Balague.
Blocked me on Twitter after I asked him to tell me what next week's lottery numbers were a year or two back and life has been wonderful since.

I agree with the point on promotion. We’re kind of stuck in limbo if we get promoted, where we almost know we will be coming back down before a ball has been kicked.
I really hope we don’t go up this season.

Re: Daniel Storey Doing the 92
i did like the opening few paragraphs, the picture that is painted of the view and how it looks to an outsider , i don't think you fully appreciate how beautiful our part of the world actually is until and outsider comments on it, JJ Watt commented on the areas beauty in the one of documentary and they showed some stunning footage of the area.
as for the comments on the football club and us being 'stuck in limbo' i think he is spot on.
just need to get back to the prem and have a good luck rather than bad luck season and stay up !!

It would be an interesting stat to see what % of clubs that stay up the first season after promotion stay up the second season and on average how long do they last in the Premier League before going back down. It feels like if you manage to survive the first season then you have a great chance to hang around a bit but that might be just my perception rather than the realitywhat now ! wrote: ↑Fri Oct 11, 2024 12:43 pmjust need to get back to the prem and have a good luck rather than bad luck season and stay up !!

Re: Daniel Storey Doing the 92
i think you are correct, if you look a those recently that have gone up and stayed up they seem to stay there a while , bournemouth/fulham/notts forest. and they seem t have all improved as well , its staying up that first season that is difficult.
of course a change of ownership and big funds to spend will help as well !!
someone will probably produce a stat now that shows thats not the case, but over the last 5 years i think it probably is

Don’t know the exact stats but I think your perception is probably correct.Devils_Advocate wrote: ↑Fri Oct 11, 2024 12:58 pmIt would be an interesting stat to see what % of clubs that stay up the first season after promotion stay up the second season and on average how long do they last in the Premier League before going back down. Recent examples include Notts Forest, Fulham, Brentford, Bournemouth and even going back as far as ourselves, Brighton and Leicester (when the 3 of us were all competing for promotion a few years ago).
I know it’s become a bit of a managers cliche about targeting to finish 17th in the season after promotion but I think this is closer to the truth than ever…especially if you are a team that has not been in the premier league for a number of years. If like Ipswich you have been in the championship and below for a number of years then you are looking at years of your budgets being a fraction of not only those who have been in the premier league for years but also the yo yo type teams who have been there and had parachute payments in recent times etc. The gap in players wage budgets and transfer spend will be enormous for these clubs. All of which means if you do manage to finish 17th or higher not only is it a massive achievement now but you are also probably spending relative fortunes to what you are used to as a club.
I know that our last few summers have appeared madness in terms of turnover of players but the way football is going now I would be amazed if this does not become nearer to the norm than exceptions for clubs going up and coming straight back down.
Re: Daniel Storey Doing the 92
I don't think we almost know we will be coming back down at all. We've been relegated twice in about our last 8 prem seasons (cba looking up the real stat)claret2018 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 11, 2024 12:12 pmI agree with the point on promotion. There's been a bit of a rush to make big conclusions about the gap being top wide etc after last season when in reality the 3 clubs had 3 very distinct reasons for the underperformance of the promoted clubs.
Luton had never been there and had a bunch of players nowhere near the level and weren't willing to spend and risk everything.
Sheff Utd threw the towel in before they'd even started and lost their best two players in Berge and N'diaye.
We had absolutely no reason to go down, especially with Everton and Forests point deduction. We had a big budget, good players, a good manager and we made an absolute pigs ear of it through naivety and inexperience.
