Man City to be relegated?

Post by bumba » Mon Feb 17, 2025 4:17 pm

Just been checking relegation odds on a betting site curious about the odds for Man Utd and noticed man Utd were 33/1 to be relegated yet City were the 5th shortest odds at 16/1.....
Do they have some information not yet in the public?

I know about the charges but do people actually anticipate them being relegated? I can't for the life of me see it happening

What they did was systematic cheating at the highest level for years. The PL would be quite within their rights to kick them out. The Football League is under no obligation to take them in either.

Everton put their hands up and admitted they got it wrong. They got a significant points deduction because of it and they were far more honest about it with the PL than Man City have been.

I'd prefer to see a punishment similar to what Rangers got. I suspect they will get a massive fine instead which is pointless considering they are owned by a country who has essentially infinite money. I also suspect that whatever punishment is handed down will be litigated for a very, very long time before a final toothless resolution is reached.

Surely all those clubs who were punished will be seeking compensation after the recent ruling.

As has been explained previously by ‘experts’ (I think Kieran Maguire was one), the Premier League has no jurisdiction over the EFL, so can’t dictate what the EFL do with them. The only course of action for the Premier League is a huge fine and/or massive points deduction, the latter of which might see them relegated.

The only kind of deduction that would threaten them with relegation would be 50 points I suppose, so it depends if they believe their crimes are 5x worse than they thought Everton’s were.

And the league will be able to afford it, and still have a handsome profit to spend on bonuses, having received an obscene amount of money in fines.

I suspect there were a few bets going in, on the off chance they do face relegation as a punishment. Bookies will have adjusted the odds to protect themselves.

I hope they do get relegated as a punishment. Then Premier league fans can sing to them one of city's main songs We're not really here and replace it with you're.

They’ve been dragging it out for about 9 years, no chance they go down but bookies covering their backs.

With verdict expected anytime it’s worth keeping an eye on this as a guide - they don’t get much wrong that’s for sure!

16/1 is very long however so I’d imagine at this stage they are merely pricing in the possibility. The industry will have a steer well before it’s announced I’d imagine, it’s often how these things work.

City won a case against the PL recently there is absolutely 0 chance that happens.
