Now that Brighton have managed to finally get promoted, it's good to see that they have maintained the modesty that we are so used to from them. This is a quote from their forum.
"We'll have some tough competitive battles with the established mid-tablers like West Brom, Stoke and Southampton. But its the games against the junk and tripe like Burnley, Bournemouth, Hull / Swansea (whichever of those stays up), Palace, and of course whoever comes up through the Playoffs that will define our season."
http://www.northstandchat.com/forumdisp ... -Big-Board
Another one of their gems is that they could become as big as Real Madrid!!

'junk and tripe like Palace' - now, I know they have a bit of a rivalry/ hatred for Palace, but do they not realise Palace have spent £120 million in the last 12 months and Kabaye and Benteke and Co will wipe the floor with BHA.
The most arrogant, obnoxious bunch of deluded little sun tanned, loafer wearing mummy's boys I've ever had the misfortune of having to listen to.

Delusions of grandeur. Burnley fans were glad to get there and are pretty grounded....brighton fans in for a shock.

Again, a mistake to judge them all by the comments of one or two contributors.
Anybody reading some of our threads would quickly conclude albeit quite wrongly that Burnley fans are a bunch of racist, selfish, redneck, argumentative oafs with nothing but negativity towards other people, our team and manager. Oh, hang on...
Only joking but you can't really blame Brighton fans for feeling confident, they have just enjoyed two very, very good seasons. Not as good as ours but there you go.

I really didn't mind Brighton until I started reading their messageboard a couple of years ago.
Most of them are absolute clowns. Arrogance on another level, saying that, pretty sure the Madrid comment was a joke even they wouldn't go that far

We all know they are in for a massive shock. They will soon come back down to earth with a bump. They are used to winning most games for two seasons now...that won't happen and we will see then how they react. Would not surprise me one bit to see them do a Boro..spend and still its not enough. They are an expansive footballing side..they will get ripped apart trying that game because the majority of prem teams will be better at it and will play into their hands.
Our style is much more abrasive and defensive..it's not pretty to watch but it will ultimately do the trick.

This is the actual quote about Real Madrid. Doesn't appear to be a joke to me.
"While we could become as big as Real Madrid the short term aim must be to stay in the Premier League and look to become an established team which is not pulled into relegation issues. Then a top 10 side with the odd season in the Europa League via league position or a cup win,"

Just wasted 5 minutes of my valuable time reading the 'how big can we become' thread on 'North Stand Chat', here's one classic:
'First few seasons consolidate in the prem. Next few years top half of the table 10th - 6th
However in a decade or more i don't see any reason why Brighton can't be one of the biggest clubs in the country. Massive catchment area, in the rich South East, New ground, great youth setup. The longer we stay in the prem, maybe through in a cup win this club could definitely be as big as a Chelsea after 10-20 years. I genuinely think Brighton tick every box to be a regular top 6 prem team.
Think big. The last 20 years of history to where Brighton are now is fairy tale story however a team like Brighton should never have been in those lower leagues. It was all down to other factors away from football.'
Aye, crack on lad, keep taking the ketamine, it's clearly working - 'as big as Chelsea' - 'a regular top 6 prem team'. Unbelievably hilarious.
Erm, Earth calling bell end - WTF have Brighton EVER done. Absolutely fcuk all. You've won promotion and done fantastically well, can't you just enjoy it without all this bull. I can see this lot invading our forum for a few months 'a la Boro' if they have a decent start, and then when reality sets in, they'll all slope off in silence.
Rant over.

They sound vaguely like Boro fans did last summer and that worked out well.
I've no doubt Bloom will let them throw some money at it, but I doubt Hughton is the man to make them as big as anyone in the top 6, not even the top 10.
He will be potted the minute their season starts to crumble, if it does.

Their biggest problem is they probably will throw money at it, just like Boro. Their best chance is to stand by the team that got them up, and strengthen in a few key areas. Do that and they could stay up, follow the Boro route and they're shagged.
I can't be done with getting upset by the arrogance, I just find it amusing. He who laughs last..........

I hope they do a Boro and fail miserably, as many find out throwing money at it doesn't guarantee anything in this league so I would say their best bet is to stick with what they have invest in a couple of Prem quality players and do what we are trying to do survive the first season. with how some of them are talking they are going to be top 10 material, Hughton really is wasted on that bunch.

Football League Fourth Division
Southern Football League
Cup Honours
FA Charity Shield
The Sussex Royal Ulster Rifles Charity Cup

Since when have Madrid had medium to long term expectations of top 10 finishes and ocassional jaunts in to Europe?

Many years ago, circa 1997/98 and onwards. There was a Brighton fan on AOL called 'Marworks' and even then he had this arrogance about his club. Which was my first interaction really with one of them. Talking with fans of other clubs recently and it seems they are equally disliked by other clubs fans as well, at all levels.
Their arrogance reminds me a lot of Boro fans last season and we all know, despite throwing money at the issue, where they are.
I hope so.
I do hope Huddersfield come up and stay up at their expense. Proper club, with little money in comparison. Doing things right. Now who does that remind me of?!

Dean Hoyle, the Huddersfield owner, has put in around £60m of his own money to bankroll Huddersfield over the last couple of years.
They haven't just gone from Championship relegation fodder to playoffs with Jurgen Klopp's mate by magic.

Hughton was on the radio the other day saying he was looking at what teams like Burnley and Bournemouth had done in keeping most of the team together and capitalising on the togetherness rather than shipping in loads of new players.

Sounds good, but how many times do the owners take this decision out of the managers hand.

Top thread. They're like a south coast Newcastle. They believe they're everyone's second club which is half true as a lot of their season ticket holders support big clubs and see Brighton as their local alternative. Everyone else see them as noveau riche & arrogant to boot. Their relegation will be delicious to watch.

A number of their fans might be knobs however both promoted clubs have good managers with PL experience and big financial backing by the sound of it. So both could do well next season.

£5m needed to upgrade technology to Premier league standard.
Brighton are not super flush but do have 25,000 + gates
I believe they will get a real shock as will Newcastle.
In the two times we've been up it's got harder and harder to survive even with serious spend like Boro tried

I think they will go the same way as Boro have this season. The fatal error was not securing the league title yesterday. Teams who don't come up as champions tend to struggle

I can't help but think that, judging by their failure to seal the deal at Villa Park(when they were in the box seat) and their failure to clinch automatic last term(and subsequent failure at the first hurdle in the Play-Offs), they are a bit soft centred. A bad start to next term could see them struggle to recover. We should definitely be aiming to finish above them.

They can use them to cry into when they get bummed back down into the Championship. Hughton really needs to leave and go to a respectable club because everything else about BHA stinks. When you read their message board it's like none of them have been away before...tales of how the home fans are such nasty people because they were chanting at them etc, etc. and digs at every club north of Watford. I genuinely get the impression that 90% of them hadn't watched football, or at least Brighton, until they had money pumped into them a few years ago. It'll be fun watching them get spanked every week (which I'm sure will be a pleasure/pain kind of situation for some of them)
