What a season!!
13 games left we are 12 points clear of relegation, in seventh place and only 7 points off fifth! And that is including the worst injury record I can remember in a long time.

Great to be 7th, let’s hope everyone below us continues to be terrible. Top 10 would be a massive achievement from where we are now injury wise.

If a different 4 had got injured, we would look a good side capable of trying to take the game to the opposition.
I'm confident next season will see changes in the approach dependent on opposition and serve up good football matches to watch.

Went down to the Championship with a strong Championship team, added the quality to walk the Championship and went up with a team capable of staying up last season. Added more quality last summer and GK and Lennon this month to survive comfortably. This summer should be an interesting one!MACCA wrote:Better football is just around the corner. We are evolving.

The football we played at times in the championship was fantastic.
We have moved up a level or 3 in opposition since then and are competing how we deem appropriate to the players we've got. We have still got 2 or 3 players who start regularly who are championship players really, so it's admirable what we've acheived.

It has been a fantastic season. The injuries have been so frustrating but get them back fit for next season with a fair bit of money to spend in the summer no reason why next season can’t be as good. Exciting times.
Re: What a season!!
I am super proud, 35 well earned points, a point at Newcastle without, Heaton, Lowton, Tarks, Ward, Brady, Defour and Wood puts it in perspective for me, I am as proud as a proudsville supporter. UTC
Re: What a season!!
Definite improvement on last year largely down to improved away form, this time last year after 24 matches we were in 12th with 29 points 9 points clear of last relegation spot and 16 points off sixth and 18 off 4th. We had scored 26 goals and conceded 35.
This year after 25 matches we are in 7th with 35 points, 12 points clear of the last relegation spot,7 points off 6th and 15 off 4. We have scored 20 goals and conceded 22.
Those are the bare statistics, but in my opinion we have competed more and the football at times has been far better.

I've just reviewed the season so far and we have lost just 3 games to sides below us.
Away to leicester and crystal palace and at home to wba.
Forgetting the performances and remembering that points are king only the west brom result can be said to be an upset.
UTC onwards and upwards.

Dyche has done incredibly well, so many injuries and a unwillingness to spend I fear will cost us 7th and European qualification which would still be a great season but with the cushion we had and the football we were playing it would be a bit of a ''what if'' season.

Europe would be too soon this time around. Our squad wouldn't take the strain and we would go the way of Pompey, Wigan, Fulham, Boro, Bolton et al., who all had their European adventure and soon after were relegated.KRBFC wrote:Dyche has done incredibly well, so many injuries and a unwillingness to spend I fear will cost us 7th and European qualification which would still be a great season but with the cushion we had and the football we were playing it would be a bit of a ''what if'' season.
I'll quite happily stick to the slow building process. A couple of better players every year could see a sustained PL stay and maybe Europe some day.

Re: What a season!!
Might not be a "what if" season yet. Injuries coming back all the time (Heaton and Wardy training)
And hopefully, Tarks won't be too long. And with the two new fast lads Lennon and Nkoudou who
surely will be soon terrorising defences, (and yes, I agree SD should be starting with at least one of them),
I think it could really be a good ending to the season.
Let's just get the City game out of the way, not totally writing it off, but obv gonna be difficult.
However, after that, we've got a really favourable (on paper) run of games that will probably define our
season's ending. I can see us getting a good haul of points out of these games.
But the main thing for us to do is back the lads to the hilt and push em as far up the table as possible.

I said this season would be a what if season if we didn't finish 7th, I'm speaking for myself, my opinion, I'm not a speaking for the entire fan base. Last season wasn't a what if for me, neither was the season before. I feel like this season we could've missed a huge opportunity you may disagree and you're entitled too.dsr wrote:Every season is a "what if" season. Re: What a season!!
I think the reality is KRBFC is that every season we finish above 18th is a good one.
I just don't see how that could change in all honesty. I certainly don't ever envisage a situation in which the season will start and we can go "no danger of relegation for us then"

Re: What a season!!
I agree but after such a good start and practically safe at Christmas, it would've been nice to really give Mr Dyche the best chance possible of 7th. He deserved it IMO. Now some will say ''well it was Dyche who didn't want to spend'' but I counter that by saying, the problem with the deals was the structure of the payment not the fee. I highly doubt Dyche structures the deal but will likely have a say in the fee.Lancasterclaret wrote:I think the reality is KRBFC is that every season we finish above 18th is a good one.

Re: What a season!!
It's been a very strange season.
Nobody thought we could be as high as 7th at this stage.
Strolled to an easy 2-0 victory at Ewood park.
Won at Chelsea and Everton.
Drew at Spurs Liverpool and United.
Finally beat Swansea.
Plenty of 1-0 wins.
Pope coming in and doing better than even his mum and dad could of hoped.
Charlie Taylor coming in and doing really well.
Nearly selling out every home game.
7th Despite
Only 1 win out of 5 against the promoted sides scoring only 2 goals.
A run of 8 without a win.
Being the only side to lose to WBA at home despite them being reduced to 10 men.
Injuries to our best players.

Talk about bending the truth to suit your agenda? Do you really thing Dyche is that naive? He more or less runs the club and therefore has a huge say in what we pay for players. It's his call (rightly or wrongly) to not pay over the odds for a backup centre half or a 'number 10' .File it under your "Dyche out" campaign and not "sack the board" if you'd prefer.KRBFC wrote:I agree but after such a good start and practically safe at Christmas, it would've been nice to really give Mr Dyche the best chance possible of 7th. Re: What a season!!
In 1988, as an 8 year old, my son asked me how far up the leagues could Burnley go. Not wishing to raise his expectations I told him we could aspire to be a regular Division 2 side (Championship in today's terms). 30 years on and just look at us now. The amazing first half of the season has (not surprisingly) raised expectations. But I think we should be looking for a season by season improvement which is what we are getting. True we could be a little more adventurous at times but with over half of our regular starters currently sidelined I can understand why we set up like we do. Embrace these times Burnley fans - my son and I certainly are doing!

Re: What a season!!
I think the issue this season is injuries. Any club our size would struggle to replace the players we have lost, and now we've just lost our player of the season.I agree but after such a good start and practically safe at Christmas, it would've been nice to really give Mr Dyche the best chance possible of 7th. Re: What a season!!
Those people who have been criticising the club for not bringing in players seem to be reporting this as fact now and saying that the deals did not happen because we refused to pay more (or all) of the fee up front.
Where is the evidence for this ? The club is in a very strong cashflow position so it makes no sense at all that this would be an issue for us.
What may be have been an issue was a combination of the total fee and "add ons" in relation to areas such as sell on percentage ; first team appearances or even things like making a full England debut.
If the amounts rumoured of £20m and £15m were correct for Worral and Holding it may be as simple as Dyche did not think they were worth anywhere near that amount....which seems pretty justifiable for a young lad with only championship experience and another lad who cost £1m not so long ago and has hardly played for a team who have shipped a lot more goals than us this season.

Glad we are not being held to ransom by the likes of Forest - they were very active in the market yesterday but if they are going to make any push for promotion next year they will need to sell one or two of their best players to fund any spend on new players or like you say they will be languishing where they are now.

Talk about bending the truth
I'm not bending the truth, you don't know the truth (neither do I), it's what I've gauged from comments from Nixon and others about the structure of the deals repeatedly being the issue not the fee.
Do you really thing Dyche is that naive? He more or less runs the club and therefore has a huge say in what we pay for players. It's his call (rightly or wrongly) to not pay over the odds for a backup centre half or a 'number 10'
In the post you quoted I said '' I highly doubt Dyche structures the deal but will likely have a say in the fee.'' So you're re-enforcing my point but trying to argue? Dyche will absolutely have a say in the fee we pay and the value of a player but I highly doubt Dyche will structure the deal (decide which add ons are involved) which was the issue in not getting the deals over the line (something out of Dyche's control).
your agenda
What is my agenda? You clearly don't understand what my initial point was because I was actually supportive of Dyche, I wanted him to be backed because he deserves it.
Re: What a season!!
Evolution not revolution. The year in year improvement is amazing and what's more, sustainable. Defour' & Cork before Christmas must have been our best combo in CM for 40 years.... And only a few years ago I was watching Wade Elliot forced into that role. Upgrades are quietly being introduced bit by bit all over the pitch and in reserve. How anyone can't see the bigger picture defeats me
Re: What a season!!
Can't knock where we are at, but something has got to improve on adding to this squad and generally on our overseas recruitment. It feels as though we are still very much re-active, especially in this window. Royboy makes some great comments regarding the next TV Rights revenue, and us moving up a gear or two on the finance side of things...but totally agree with most on here, what a fantastic season we are having.

I hope all those who spent wed. night griping on the match thread have realised by now we got another away point. Tthis is the big boys league every point counts.
