Cakes and Iron Bru

Post by Bordeauxclaret » Mon May 14, 2018 12:37 pm

Looking at the pictures it wasn’t just the players eating them.

Was it Duff or someone from that era who said that during Coyle's time with us the players would be having cans of fizzy drinks during/after training etc.

I think it was.

That season and a half of success gets more astonishing with every appointment.
No wonder he took the payday at Bolton. He must have known he was winging it.

....“I’ve spoken to a couple of people I knew he had at Burnley and they said they had seven or eight captains in their team that got them through..."

That's a telling quote from the article.
He was found out a long time ago. Can't understand how he gets work. (Though glad the Chicken Farm took him on). :)

He must have a very good agent to go along with his natural bullsheet.

"“His track record wasn’t great. He had a couple of relegations under his belt. But I don’t want to bad-mouth him too much because it’s all about the players."
He could hardly have been more damning though if he had tried!!

They certainly had a McDonalds after the game in Perth before the promotion season - very odd seeing the team bus pull up, even if I was having a pint.

We were training for cakes and Irn-Bru every day

Seems one of the Ross County players wasn't too impressed with the manager that came and went during the season.

Duffo did a Q&A during his testimonial season and described us as the most unprofessional team ever to win promotion. He said we never planned for games, no set piece work or anything like that, and then on the day before the game they used to play for Krispy Kremes.

The telling comment in the article was having spoken to two Burnley players of the time. I've no idea who they might have been but we had a few Scots around the squad then. Countless people have told me of the work done by such as Grezza and Steven Caldwell as much as anyone during that period. Other players didn't deal with it, didn't like it that way, and were banished very quickly.
