Espana clarets

Post by WestMidsClaret » Fri Jun 08, 2018 7:47 am

Hello to all clarets in Spain (and everywhere else) moving out there in 3 weeks and just wanted some advice on broadband please. We are moving to Alicante and need seriously good internet. There's going to be a lot of usage with phones, laptops etc and the missus is teaching online so it needs to be stable. I've had a look about online and would rather have 1st hand experience. So any advice/suggestions as to who to use would be much appreciated.

Gracias.

Good luck with that. We moved there a few years ago and it was 4 months before they came to connect a phone line. 6 months for internet. Very unreliable service.
Let's hope the Spaniards have caught up!! :o

We were out in the sticks though. Benidorm it's called. You've probably never heard of it. :D

The in-laws used 4G internet, there'll be plenty of ads about for it, keep an eye out in the local ex-pat newspapers.

Ok listen, you need the Movistar package with football, it's awesome.
We get 300MB Fibre, landline, 2 x Mobiles with unlimited data and EVERY football game on the planet, all premier league games, bundesliga, la liga etc EVERYTHING for 100 euros a month.
DO NOT get Orange or Vodafone or anything else, they are all crap, believe me, I've been through them all.

Are you originally from Todmorden, C.O.A.T.,? You look like somebody I met from there in Barcelona who was a Burnley fan.

No Sky or BTSport or any of that stuff here, you get all your footy through your mobile provider :)
Also, Spanish telly is crap but downloading is prevalent and all the torrent sites are unblocked so you can still get the bay of pirates (if you know what I mean) for all your films and series.

I use Vodafone. I watch football games without much problem (streaming) and I've taught classes online without any problem. Had issues as they messed up the bill but the connection is good. Saying that I don't live in Valencia. Also generally I hate Vodafone, I've always had problems in different countries especially with customer service but that's probably Spain in general, they don't care as much as in the UK in my experience. I'd say it depends on where you live and if your building can get fibre or whatever, not all of them can. But you can check online beforehand. Vodafone, Movistar or maybe Jazztel would be on my shortlist

JB, Jazztel is for teenagers and gypos, and Vodfone is similar to Orange, awful Cust. Service and always messing up the bill, taking it on a different day every month and fining you if you don't have the cash in on that random day, with Orange we also got two bills for some weird reason.
Check with Movistar that you can get fibre with them and go for that, you get a 5ghz wi-fi router too.

This. Never had any problems with Movistar internet. We also have the Fusion package with the various TV (footy!) packages and 2 mobile deals with loads of GB of data thrown in.
