Yes thanks for that South West Claret.
The never played for both Burnley and Aberdeen thread starts properly tomorrow, and will no doubt reach a 1,000 pages.

Martin Buchan played for them and sat in our managers seat.
I refuse to say he managed us.

Jimmy Mullen was Ian Porterfields assistant after Fergie left.
Re: Played for both Burnley and Aberdeen
Hewitt scored the goal that won Aberdeen the Cup winners cup and he played in a pre season game for Burnley in the 80's. Some Lancashire Cup?

Re: Played for both Burnley and Aberdeen
I think it was 1992 and he actually played in the final and went off with a winners medalrayzer wrote:Hewitt scored the goal that won Aberdeen the Cup winners cup and he played in a pre season game for Burnley in the 80's. Some Lancashire Cup?
Re: Played for both Burnley and Aberdeen
Thats the one CT. Hewitt is a legend up here. Not many Aberdonions know he played for Burnley. On another note, if you manage to talk to. some of the older folk, mention Adam Blacklaw. He is still remembered fondly.

We didn't sign Hewitt. He was on trial here with Jimmy Mullen and the Lancashire Cup was a pre-season competition that he played in.rayzer wrote:Thats the one CT. Hewitt is a legend up here. Adam - my very first hero. I first watched that great Burnley side of the early 60s and I chose the bloody goalkeeper as my favourite. I eventually met him and was a bundle of nerves. He'll always be remembered fondly as far as I'm concerned.
Re: Played for both Burnley and Aberdeen
Just found this link to a fitting tribute to the great Adam Blacklaw - a true Claret legend (it's a cliché, but they don't make 'em like that any more):

My daughter was at Nelson and Colne college studying for her art A levels. She always wore a Burnley shirt and was in one of the art rooms with the janitor close cleaning around the place. The janitor said to her, “That’s a good shirt your wearing”, to which my daughter says, “ oh yes it’s a Burnley shirt”, the janitor gently smiles and explains, “Yes I know I used to play in goal for them, my name is Adam Blacklaw”.
She struck up a very good friendship with him after that.
