I don't reckon having five subs will help the richer teams all that much.
Have you seen the way they micro-manage everything when they bring a sub on now? It takes five minutes talking to the sub and showing him pictures on the magic lantern before he can come on. They leave players out there with a hamstring injury getting worse just to make sure the sub can be given detailed instructions. They'll struggle to do that with three at once.
There's three reasons for tactical substitutions. One, to bring on fresh legs. This is usually used for forwards, because to do it for the players further back is likely to disrupt the team - especially as you aren't allowed to have five minutes with each defender to tell him to move five blades of grass to the right when their number 7 has the ball and there is a full moon. Two, to change the system. Also a problem because as above, footballers are no longer clever enough to change system without a five minute tutorial. Three, to replace someone who is playing badly.
This won't give anyone a tactical advantage over Burnley. One, all the players know the system inside out and back to front. Two, we never change it. And three, our players aren't allowed to have bad games. So it makes no difference to us!!!
