Re: Mala’s tribute to Edwin Starr
Had the pleasure of seeing Edwin Starr on several scooter rallies in the late 90’s. At the time 60’s soul and Northern was completely finished, and had been for some time. I remember the excitement of hearing that King Georges were planning to revive a Northern night while at Whitley Bay…

Re: Mala’s tribute to Edwin Starr
The northern soul scene was arguably bigger in the late 90s than at any time in its history. We were travelling all over the country to events, and Burnley had one of the best nights at the Kestrel Suite with Ginger Taylor and top djs. I came over a few times and it was always a top night. I don't know where you got your information from, but it is incorrect.elwaclaret wrote: ↑Thu Oct 28, 2021 7:34 pmHad the pleasure of seeing Edwin Starr on several scooter rallies in the late 90’s. There was events everywhere, Preston, Blackpool, Burnley, Accrington, Halifax, all the smaller towns like Skipton, Longridge, in fact everywhere.
Manchester had around 20 venues on the go at weekends. Hyde, Denton, Old Trafford, Stockport Ashton under Lyne, Reddish and so on.

Re: Mala’s tribute to Edwin Starr
Cheers mate. I agree with that. Early 90s was when the soul crews kids were getting older and they could return to the scene. It had gone underground again at that stage , but Stafford and the 100 club carried the scene through and its massive again now.elwaclaret wrote: ↑Fri Oct 29, 2021 10:55 pmYes sorry, don’t know why I put late 90’s it was late 80’s early 90’s

Is that a genuine mistake or are you trying, and failing, to be ironic and funny?

You've captured my interest now on how you think my post could have been intended to be ironic?longsidetrumpet wrote: ↑Sat Oct 30, 2021 1:44 pmIs that a genuine mistake or are you trying, and failing, to be ironic and funny?

No, I wasn't trying to be funny but I could understand why someone might think it could have been intended to be funny. What now interests me though is how you think my post could have been intended to be ironic. Genuinely interested so please help me out.longsidetrumpet wrote: ↑Sat Oct 30, 2021 2:06 pmSo you admit you’re trying to be funny? Much preferred Rip It Up

DA it must feel amazing to win at being a clever dick on a genuinely interesting thread about the northern soul scene. As if anyone wants to get into a debate with you about the definition of irony while reliving northern soul memories.

Re: Mala’s tribute to Edwin Starr
Its a music thread which brought to mind an old song I hadn't thought about for ages so I posted a video of the song. It was Trumpet who then out of the blue started having a pop at me when there was no need so I give him a little back cos as I proved he was talking nonsense.
Re: Mala’s tribute to Edwin Starr
But it is specifically a tribute to Edwin Starr not a vehicle for you to demonstrate what a pathetic and sad life you lead. Attention seeking is for 5 year olds. Grow up.Devils_Advocate wrote: ↑Wed Nov 03, 2021 10:34 pmIts a music thread which brought to mind an old song I hadn't thought about for ages so I posted a video of the song. A much underrated performer. One of his best below, the b side to Time.

Re: Mala’s tribute to Edwin Starr
Are you being serious and saying that posting a song by Edwin Collins on a music thread about Edwin Starr warrants people get upset and having a pop at me for trying to be funny, clever, ironic, attention seeking?Corky wrote: ↑Thu Nov 04, 2021 7:45 amBut it is specifically a tribute to Edwin Starr not a vehicle for you to demonstrate what a pathetic and sad life you lead. Are you really that sensitive that someone posting a music video by someone other than Edwin Starr on this thread upsets you. I posted it in the moment and really dont understand why Trumpet LS7 and now you seem upset. It was one post on this thread and had you Trumpet and LS7 not started having a go at me I would not have had another single post on this thread.
You're calling me pathetic and sad because I posted an Edwin Collins song which to be fair makes you sound like a bit of an arsehole and a little sensitive,
Re: Mala’s tribute to Edwin Starr
I am neither upset nor particularly bothered by your posts generally. In the main they are harmless if a little puerile and as I mentioned, generally quite infantile.I was just pointing out why people find you irrelevant. Humour me; why did you feel it appropriate to post a song by Edwin(sic.) Collins (his name is spelt Edwyn but wouldn't expect a 5 year old to spot that) on a tribute thread about Edwin Starr.Devils_Advocate wrote: ↑Thu Nov 04, 2021 10:37 amAre you being serious and saying that posting a song by Edwin Collins on a music thread about Edwin Starr warrants people get upset and having a pop at me for trying to be funny, clever, ironic, attention seeking?

Re: Mala’s tribute to Edwin Starr
I didn't find it necessary but I was looking at the thread and it made me think of that song. I put the song on Youtube and thought I'd post it on the thread. Pretty much every thread on here starts on one specific subject and has lots of branches where people mention discuss different stuff. This is very true of most music threads so I dont see why anyone would feel the need to comment negatively towards me about the post I made.Corky wrote: ↑Thu Nov 04, 2021 11:09 amI am neither upset nor particularly bothered by your posts generally. Also you wasn't just pointing out why people fine me irrelevant you actually commented specifically to the post I made and claimed me posting that song demonstrated what a sad and pathetic life I lead and implied it was attention seeking and told me to grow up.
So please justify your comments that me posting a link to that song on this thread meant I lead a sad and pathetic life and that my post was attention seeking? Like I said you comment just sounds like you being a complete arsehole when there was no need.
You're even at it again calling me a 5 year old for a spelling mistake. Seriously its you who needs to take a step back as you're just being a bit of a knobhead when there's no need. Im the 5 year old but you cant have an adult conversation.
