Points in our remaining games
As there isn't much else to discuss ATM, might as well predict our remaining results in what's sadly likely to be our PL swansong.
Man City (H) 0
Everton (H) 1
Norwich (a) 1
West Ham (a) 0
Southampton (H) 3
Wolves (H) 0
Watford (a) 1
Villa (H) 3
Spurs (a) 0
Newcastle (H) 1
Villa (a) no date for this one yet, but 0.
I think we'll nick a couple more wins, but alas our recent slump in form plus the results of others has just left us too much ground to make up.

Re: Points in our remaining games
That’s not far away from our form over the past 3 seasons. We won’t be far away from that either way. Unfortunately our only hope is to flip the script completely and for someone to collapse.tiger76 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 21, 2022 10:49 amAs there isn't much else to discuss ATM, might as well predict our remaining results in what's sadly likely to be our PL swansong.

Re: Points in our remaining games
Personally at most one more win and 5- 6 draws
Re: Points in our remaining games
It's still in our own hands. 9 points Behind Brentford with 3 games in hand for example. We just need to win a couple of games to get us back in the mix.

Catching them is not the problem, but these clubs like Brentford have the ability to win and get draws too in their remaining games

Re: Points in our remaining games
The game against Everton should be top favourite for three points.
They're still very poor, despite that win v Wolves.
But I think we'll come up short on the points front, unfortunately.

Re: Points in our remaining games
We’ve won 3 all season. Where do you think these the couple of wins we “just” need will come from?
I’d sooner be sat where Brentford are with their points and games played than where we are with our points and games in hand. I seriously doubt there is a Burnley fan anywhere who wouldn’t willingly swap.

Only takes a week similar to the Brighton Spurs one where we got 6 points in 4 days. It was just to highlight that we just need to concentrate on ourselves rather than others.
But to answer your question we are well capable of beating:
Everton (H)
Norwich (a)
Southampton (H)
Wolves (H)
Watford (a)
Villa (H)
Newcastle (H)
Obviously Dyche needs to pick the tight team, that would be a good starter for 10

Won’t get a better chance than against a woefully out of form Everton side on a Tuesday night at the Turf.
Re: Points in our remaining games
If we can beat Brighton and Spurs then why can't we beat any of those other teams?
Are we now incapable of beating both those two teams were we to play them again?

I’d agreeVegas Claret wrote: ↑Mon Mar 21, 2022 2:58 pmbeat Everton and I'd give us a 20% chance of staying up, lose and that's us done 100%
Re: Points in our remaining games
If we beat Everton the liklihood is that we'll be one point behind them. Surely the betting odds would be better than 20%Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Mon Mar 21, 2022 2:58 pmbeat Everton and I'd give us a 20% chance of staying up, lose and that's us done 100%
Re: Points in our remaining games
True, especially when you factor in their run in v ours.
Bit worried West Ham players won’t be at their best when they play them while we play City though, as they have Lyon that week.

Re: Points in our remaining games
no because if we beat Everton with Cork playing then Westwood would be back in in the next game

Problem is, we haven't turned up in any of our "big must win" games.

Any of them. If we can be a very good Spurs team then why not?Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 21, 2022 3:11 pmYes and we beat Brentford then lost to them at the weekend.
Again who can you see us beating?
Again, whether we do or not is another matter, but to say we are unlikely to get any more wins when we had two just four games ago seems a bit strange.

not as strange as Westwood starting over Cork !!! Rectify that and we might get wins, don't and we wont

Re: Points in our remaining games
Not many. Lost interest to be honest. Sleep walking to relegation as we knew all along. Will start afresh with renewed interest next season.
Re: Points in our remaining games
At this moment in time I'd say we are more likely to go down than stay-up, purely based on how many times we've shot ourselves in the foot so far this season. Two points lost against Leicester and Brentford clearly doesn't help.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Mon Mar 21, 2022 3:26 pmWhat do you think mate, you've been historically very accurate with your predictions - are we staying up or going down ?
However, we still seem to be getting chances to redeem ourselves. Obviously we need to rely a bit on West Ham stopping Everton winning before we play them. It feels like the first season back under SD where we hadn't won away all season then beat Crystal Palace to give ourselves a chance.
I recently posted the table after we'd played Liverpool and we were seven points off 17th and we still recovered that situation very quickly so it's still very do-able. Like last season though, we'll need to beat the mid-table sides.
I think the key is Everton AND Norwich. Win both games, and then we might finally get some proper traction - that's the key to all this. Drop points in either and I can't see us stopping up.
But and it's a big but, if we get a winning formula, like we had just done against Spurs we need to stick to it, not change the team, like against Leicester.
I do feel that if we were to get ahead of Everton after the Norwich game then SD has the experience that Lampard doesn't to keep our noses in front. Added in the overwhelming pressure that then gets applied to Everton being in the bottom three could make all the difference.
But we really do need to beat both Everton AND Norwich for that to happen. And at least the first of which is under the flood lights where crowds seem to be more galvanised.

And you haven’t answered the question, you’ve merely mentioned the games we COULD win if everything went to plan.
And I agree fwiw, all those games are winnable given the right set of circumstances. One of those circumstances is tucked away in your final paragraph. Whatever we did different in those games against Spurs and Brighton needs to be focussed on, and repeated. Question is, has that team and that set up been identified as a potential season saver….? I’ll be honest, I’m not sure it has, because if it has, then why was it abandoned so readily? Ok, so maybe JC was in need of the rest, but he didn't need resting for the last three fixtures and neither did Erik. Reverting to “type” is a plan that has served us well over the PL years, but I believe it has now got us to the point it’s actually costing us games and points, and I also believe it’s now going to be responsible for costing us our PL place.

Re: Points in our remaining games
We can finish ahead of Everton and still go down. Watford have us, Leeds and Brentford at home to play so their version of Spijed will be very confident of winning those matches and finishing ahead of Burnley and Everton
That said win against Everton and I would gives is a bit better than a 1 in 5 chance of survival.
Re: Points in our remaining games
Indeed, Watford could be the one side sneaking up on the rails in all this.Devils_Advocate wrote: ↑Mon Mar 21, 2022 4:50 pmWe can finish ahead of Everton and still go down. At least when we play Man City they have Liverpool away, so hopefully they don't get a win in that. And potentially, were we to beat Everton & Norwich they could bring Leeds back into it as it's their next game.
But it's all heavily reliant on us beating Everton and Norwich. Do that and I think we have one hell of a chance of stopping up.

Re: Points in our remaining games
Personally I'd be looking more at the home games against Southampton, Villa and Newcastle than Norwich away. All those 3 have nothing to play for and could well have their flip flops on.
Whereas Norwich haven't really got anything to lose now and could easily come out and throw the kitchen sink at us, especially playing at home.

In years gone by I wouldn’t have been surprised if we’d have hit some form and have gone:
City 0
Everton 3
Norwich 3
West Ham 1 (they have the Europa lg on the Thursday)
Southampton 3
